Mrs Distraxi is in Dubai at present. This photo is taken from her hotel room on the 31st floor. See that tall building on the right? Zoom in on the little blue structure on top. What you will see… is the start of a zip line.
It’s about $140 a go, but Mrs Distraxi has a different attitude to heights (not to mention to the middle eastern approach to safety and maintenance) than I do, so I’m fully expecting that by the end of her stay she’ll have convinced herself it’s worth it…

@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi
I wouldn't bother with Dubai but a zipline like that....for sure!!! -
@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi As someone who is terrified of heights... sign me up!

That's the spirit. Heights have never killed anyone... directly.

@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi i'm with you. all the nopes.

@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi I was in Jamaica and a tourist died on a zip line. I'm pretty sure Dubai is safer but that's a hard no.
-
@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly As they say, it's not the fall but the sudden stop that gets you.
-
@krustywantout
The trick seems to be be...not falling? -
@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly That's what they say....
-
@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly I mean really it’s the stuff way under the heights that gets you.
-
@HFV
True. The trick is to make the journey... carefully. -
@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi Oh, hell no!
-
@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi it being the UAE chances are the actual infrastructure was designed by overpaid Europeans using imported rope for 3x the price, so my bet is that the only people dying from the zipline would be the migrant workers those overpaid Europeans supervised.

She can fly. You see, it’s all about aiming at the ground, and missing.
-
@GrindIntoSecond That means she's in orbit. Which would also be cool. As long as she's in a space capsule.
-
@tae Construction I’m sure will be fine. Operations and maintenance, on the other hand, will be by underpaid immigrant workers who DGAF.

@DipodomysDeserti Hypoxia always seemed to me like a peaceful way to go.

@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi I agree, nope. But not because of fear of heights or anything like that, it just doesn't do anything for me. I've never been skydiving/bungee jumping/ziplining, but aerobatic planes (which I have ridden in) and even roller coasters are just not interesting. I don't get that "rush" people talk about: it's just a mildly unpleasant ride to be endured. Whatever the risk is, and I imagine it's pretty low, the reward, for me, is zero.
Anf $140? That's a really nice meal for two pretty much anywhere. Or gas money to go explore a national park (a nearby one these days). Or a new RC car kit. I'm not going to blow it on 30 seconds of discomfort instead.

@DipodomysDeserti
Still wasn't height that caused the demise...just the conditions at height! -
@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly True, but those conditions exist solely because of the height.
