Mrs Distraxi is in Dubai at present. This photo is taken from her hotel room on the 31st floor. See that tall building on the right? Zoom in on the little blue structure on top. What you will see… is the start of a zip line.

It’s about $140 a go, but Mrs Distraxi has a different attitude to heights (not to mention to the middle eastern approach to safety and maintenance) than I do, so I’m fully expecting that by the end of her stay she’ll have convinced herself it’s worth it…

@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi I was in Jamaica and a tourist died on a zip line. I'm pretty sure Dubai is safer but that's a hard no.

@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly As they say, it's not the fall but the sudden stop that gets you.

@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi it being the UAE chances are the actual infrastructure was designed by overpaid Europeans using imported rope for 3x the price, so my bet is that the only people dying from the zipline would be the migrant workers those overpaid Europeans supervised.

@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi I agree, nope. But not because of fear of heights or anything like that, it just doesn't do anything for me. I've never been skydiving/bungee jumping/ziplining, but aerobatic planes (which I have ridden in) and even roller coasters are just not interesting. I don't get that "rush" people talk about: it's just a mildly unpleasant ride to be endured. Whatever the risk is, and I imagine it's pretty low, the reward, for me, is zero.

Anf $140? That's a really nice meal for two pretty much anywhere. Or gas money to go explore a national park (a nearby one these days). Or a new RC car kit. I'm not going to blow it on 30 seconds of discomfort instead.

"The previous owner did that; it's been like that since I bought it."

@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly True, but those conditions exist solely because of the height.
