Formula One returns to Montreal for the first time in three years with a backdrop of porpoising problems to pepper the excitement…

Red Bull - Yet again Red Bull are immensely quick with Verstappen topping both practice sessions. His teammate was less consistent with P4 and P11 after a disappointing FP2.

Ferrari - Amid much controversy about whether they will or will not take a power unit penalty for Charles Leclerc, Ferrari performed well with the Monegasque taking P5 and P2 while his teammate Sainz managed P2 and P3.

Aston Martin - A surprise showing of pace from team Silverstone in FP2 with Vettel in P4. Stroll did not have the same success with P12 and P7.

Alpine - The team formerly known as Renault put on a strong performing today with Alonso taking P3 and P5 at a track he hasn’t had much success on in the past. His teammate took P15 and P10.

AlphaTauri - Another midfield team who have performed incredibly well in Canada with one driver, Gasly snook into P6 in FP2 whilst Tsunoda (who brushed the barriers) took P17.

Mercedes - Team porpoise have had a few issues this weekend with Hamilton struggling to find a suitable setup leaving him languishing in P13 in FP2. Russell fared better in P6 and P7.

McLaren - It seems that the Woking-based team have turned a corner since their disappointing start to 2022 with both drivers in the top ten in FP2 with Norris ahead in P8 over Ricciardo’s P9.

Haas - A relatively uneventful Friday for Haas with no incidents although not much pace either. P14 and P15 for Magnussen and Schumacher in FP2.

Alfa Romeo - Bottas had a very disappointing FP2 as mechanical works ruled him out for most of the session. Zhou offered little to raise the team’s spirits with P16.

Williams - Latifi was not doing much to impress the home crowd with his performance only good enough for P19 (otherwise known as last) whilst Albon didn’t fare much better in P18.

@Gabriella thought it was interesting the sky analysis said Alonso and his car should have the most pace for the track configuration

Great venue, I've been several times. Super handy having the Metro station right there too.

Amazing transition. If someone would have told you a few years ago that the fine tuned Mercedes enterprise was going to be the subject of F1 mocking in 2022, it would have been hard to picture a fall that hard.

@john-norris I know, I’m a massive Mercedes fan so it’s a painful watch (even though I made the joke). They will come back strong at some point (we hope).
