tell me again how you could think the F-15 was cooler?
Well, I was younger at the time. First flight of the F-15 was 1972, nearly 50 years ago. I was 5. I would ask, though, "Which one is still flying?"
The other thing I learned with age was that the Air Force and the Navy had very different requirements, and that both planes are awesome in their own ways.

Brain cannot compute scale of the surfer. I realize it's a telephotoing effect, but all I see is a 100 foot tall surfer.

@415s30 Its a jeep thing?

Macchi M.C.72 then? I imagined it was a Schneider Trophy aircraft, but when looking at the most famous could not find any with contra rotating propellers.
Still holds the speed record for piston-engined seaplanes. Per Wikipedia:
*This was achieved on 23 October 1934, when Agello piloted the M.C. 72 at an average speed of 709.207 km/h (440.681 mph)[5] over three passes. This record remains (as of 2019) the highest speed ever attained by a piston-engined seaplane. After this success the M.C.72 was never flown again.
[...]
One M.C. 72, the aircraft that took the world record, survives. It is on display at the Italian Air Force Museum, near Rome.*
Curiously it never actually competed for the Schneider Trophy.

Scarabeo II. Never seen that one before!
It has a general layout similar to the original Scarabeo by OSI, so it was not that difficult to identify. The big surprise, however, was that it had quite a few 116 components.
Some important names were behind it too: Giuseppe Busso and Ercole Spada.

Nice picture of the Macchi and one of the pilots. I wondered if that man could be Agello, but this guy looks younger. Maybe Bellini or Monti, who died flying precisely these aircarft?
Warbirdsnews.com shows the same picture identifying the man as Agello, but I have my doubts.
-
@AuthiCooper1300 Well we can compare, this is Agello

@David-Tracy is curled up in the fetal position sucking his thumb and mumbling to himself.

@415s30 that HMMWV is badass!

@pyroholtz It's a crazy camper

Yup, saw that picture before. Maybe he looked younger when he smiled?

Incidentally, there are several vids in YT with original footage of the record (and more, such as CGI explanations of its contra rotating props etc). Nice to watch.

@AuthiCooper1300 The Schneider Trophy planes had an interest for me as a kid in the '60's. I believe I made a Testors model of one of them. Of course it would be the same thing as a space shuttle for a kid today, Time flies.

@415s30 Sasquatch can surf!!!
Who knew -
@Noodles He dropped in a bit wilder than he thought

@415s30

He must be smiling because he doesn't have to suffer fueling up that pig anymore.
