Tesla: service challenges
-
Musk is apparently sufficiently unhappy with service lead times that they’re making the sales force help with minor service items.

@Just-Jeepin you mean, the sales force he once told were unnecessary and that he was firing, in a Tweet, at like midnight?
-
@Just-Jeepin And, as usual, is trying a solution that makes absolutely no sense.
And people think he’s a genius?
-
@ranwhenparked Wasn’t that the PR department?
-
@Just-Jeepin they never had a need for one of those, Musk is a PR genius, many people tell him, he has the best words
-
@Just-Jeepin How much training does an oil change take on one of those?
-
@EssExTee Judging by this thread, a fair bit.

Well you know what they say... sometimes things have to get bad before something is done to make them better.
And with how Tesla sales have been growing by leaps and bounds, I can't say I'm surprised something like this is happening.
Hopefully this will result in Tesla management growing the service side at a pace to keep up with sales.
And maybe they should offer service positions to at least some of the admin staff they recently let go.
EDIT: And if they want to be serious about the selling the Semi, they need to have good 24x7 service for a product like that to sell.

i thought services were also unnecessary on electric cars? seriously i've heard smart people say this. like, it doesn't have suspension? wheel hubs? brake discs? the electric motors literally last forever? just because it doesn't have an engine and some associated peripherals, doesn't mean it's impervious to wear.
the oft repeated meme about "one moving part" obviously isn't true of the entire vehicle.
i'm surprised to learn there's a gearbox though, for something that's direct drive with a single ratio. -
@Just-Jeepin So...people who have no idea what they are doing with mechanics and electrical are now working on your luxury expensive EV?
Seems like a great idea! Now you'll get shoddy service along with shoddy build quality!

@Just-Jeepin Many moons ago, I did a short contract at a telephone company. Their union negotiations were going poorly at the time. The telephone company isn't really allowed to simply close down. What I heard was that the company's backup plan if the linemen went on strike was to fly office workers in to the affected area to fill in. I can not imagine that being anything less than a disaster.
-
@Nauraushaun Also, there was that one YouTuber who bought the certified used Model S that had been through like three motors and two battery packs in 100,000 miles under the previous owner, their service departments are doing some major work
-
@ranwhenparked i wonder if that's regular maintenance, or failures from early models where the kinks weren't worked out.
regardless, it seems claims about EV servicing are way overblown -
@Nicky-Chagrin-Janitor-of-SHIELD a friend works for a company that was trying to set themselves up for a merger, so they all the field techs who were on 24 mo contracts were left to expire. so their great solution was to fly r&d engineers earning about 2.5 times what the techs make to do their work. and also complain why all future design projects have their timelines ruined.
-
@Just-Jeepin i guess thats one way to get salesmen to actually know what they’re selling

I get everything that was spewed in this thread. What do I do if I want an EV?
