Dash cams are dangerous
-
Since I installed my dash cam 1.5 years ago, my GTI has been hit twice. Glad I got the rear facing camera as the car got rear-ended today.
Stop and go traffic with construction on I-26 just south of Asheville. The guy almost finished braking before contact. Cracked bumper, very slight crease in the hatch that I think came from the Chevy logo in the grille of the Colorado.
Very, very annoying that I have to deal with this again. Glad that it was minor and we could easily pull off into a safe spot. At least this should be able to be fixed well, unlike the hit last summer. If these were normal times I might advance the timing on the replacement . . . But then I would have a new car that might get hit.
The other guy got a ticket for failure to reduce speed in order to make sure that his company’s insurance takes care of me. National service company that probably will want the insurance to sort it well to avoid bad publicity (maybe?). The ticket was explained as almost certain to be cleared if damage was addressed, so I like that.
I’m not going to the cheap body shop this time. I am going back to the guys who paint custom hot rods, even though they moved further away. Since the car is very drivable that is an option.
