I'm spending the weekend in LA ...

... any interesting car culture-related event you'd recommend ?

Petersen museum is a must. Maybe check out the C&C up at Bill's in Malibu? Stalk Jonny Lieberman's house? Throw eggs at Spike Ferestein's Defender? Give Zuckerman a high five for me?
-
@mhr555 not really sure who these guys are ... I'm a pleb from the midwest.
-
@Darkbrador find Spike's Car Radio on your favourite podcast host. Lieberman is an automotive journalist for Motor Trend. Spike is a writer/comedian for Seinfeld and Zuckerman is a rich attorney that's friends with both. Zuckerman is hilarious IMO.

Reject Car Culture
Embrace Airplane CultureSouthern California has many great aviation museums. You'll probably see something cool flying around the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino.
-
@mhr555 Is that where Loverman is now? I still remember his writing for The Truth About Cars and occasional Jalopnik spots. It's hard to conceive of them at the big publications, but probably well deserved.

@ForSweden -- Sounds like Saturday would be a good day to hit Planes of Fame in Chino:
https://planesoffame.org/events-calendar2/Living-HistorySomeone limited in spare time or unequipped with a rental car might focus on the California Science Center, as it is fairly central. It has the shuttle Endeavour, an A-12, a DC-8, and a T-38 (all local products) among its exhibits.
https://californiasciencecenter.org/exhibits/air-spaceThere's lots of other aviation stuff in the area, as one might imagine given its vast aerospace history.

Some naval attractions too: Long Beach has the Queen Mary (closed for repair as a hotel but open for tours, I think) and not far away the USS Iowa.
https://queenmary.com/tours/tours-exhibits/San Pedro held a Pride Celebration aboard Iowa pre pandemic, so I guess there has been some rapprochement on that issue since the infamous turret explosion, more than 30 years ago...
https://www.pacificbattleship.comFor car stuff, the Petersen would be the "vaut le voyage" attraction but there are others:

and as for events,

@mhr555 Petersen for sure! That place is amazing
-
@mhr555 I would love to stop at Bill's for a C&C. It's too bad I won't make it to Southern California until the winter when those events usually don't occur.
