- Looks great
- Doesn't even have to mow
Tip of the hat to you, good sir or madam

@Cash-Rewards stay tuned for the follow-up, when those flowers die off and the yard looks like weeds. Still probably worth it for those two weeks though
-
@Cash-Rewards This is so much more work than mowing. My neighbor's house looks like that and it's her hobby. She is ALWAYS out working on it.
-
I thought about doing this, but the snakes/bugs/fire ants would be off the charts. Plus it would inevitably spread to my neighbors, which isn't fair to them.
But so tempting. And ecological, too! But mostly because I'm lazy.
-
Also keeps those bratty kids from having fun on a lawn

@Cash-Rewards
This is kind of how we do things around here. Except that if it can't be run over with the Grillo or the tractor then it happens nowhere near the house... -
when those flowers die off and the yard looks like weeds.
When flowers die off it looks like seeds, and aside from getting next year's sunflowers, several kinds of birds love 'em.
There are also lots of kinds of sunflowers (including perennials, which I think bloom a lot longer than the giant annual ones).
The aesthetics of plants figuratively and literally going to seed depends on you and your neighbors and the code enforcement officer/HOA, of course, though my bet is that this house is relatively unafflicted by the latter.

@Cash-Rewards I'll admit I stopped caring so much about dandelions because they're better for the environment than grass. 1 of my 2 neighbours would probably behead me if I said that out loud though LOL
-
@Cash-Rewards we have massive former flower beds flanking our yard. we just bought the place. they're covered in weeds, which have jumped out of the beds and started invading the yard. my wife has about 50-100 sunflower seeds germinating right now, and her plan is to put them all in one of these two like 20x125' flower beds just to make the weeds less plainly evident for this year while she works on the other side. i'll let you know how that goes.

@Jarrett A few years ago Indianapolis asked people to temporarily stop treating their lawns for dandelions due to declining honey bee problems. I never really cared before, but especially now we let them go. We wait until they've all flowered before mowing for the first time, and we've been cutting really low and overseeding with clover to try to get more flowers in. I felt a little bad at our old house because the neighbors paid for a lawn service but at the new place the neighbors are renters who couldn't give less of a shit about anything.
But if my husband has his way, soon we won't have any yard left. It will be trees and a garden and a hot tub and flower beds and a greenhouse and a firepit and...

Dandelions have been proven to be bad for bees. Virtually all are invasive species, anyhow.

Clover is substantially better, but you'd be better off growing native wildflowers and shrubs.

If we didn't have a dog, I'd get rid of my lawn, too. Hate lawns and dream of a greenhouse.

It doesn't have to be work. We mulched the whole front yard and put in native plants that are little to no maintenance. Still mowing the side and back for now. Grass is much more work in our case.
-
@DSM_OR_DIE honestly those sound like really cool things to have!
-
I'm sure the neighbors will complain and the HOA will make this person's life hell...
LOL -
Me too. I do exactly nothing to my lawn except mow it every so often. I don't even rake the clippings because it's a natural way to fertilize it that costs nothing.
