Desert fall meetup

So I've seen a lot of great pictures and stories from the PNW oppo meet that looked really fun and it reinvigorated an idea in me to do this out in Utah. I'm wondering who would be interested in coming. Thinking October, probably late October where it's a little more of the off-season and the crowds have died down a little...plus temps are reasonable. I can't decide whether it would be more fun to do the lesser-known Utah hits or to try and hit some of the touristy stuff. Obviously, I'm inclined to steer clear of the tourist stuff, but I also understand that it may be many people's first time in the area.Looking for opinions on what people think for how many nights, who would be coming and what kinds of things people would want to do. Let me know in the comments if you are interested and what you think of timing/days/activities.

@HammerheadFistpunch That sounds awesome! I've only spent a little time in Utah, I'd love to come explore a bit more.
-
@HammerheadFistpunch I'm in. The only gotcha is if there's an out of state hockey tournament for my son, but I'll know by early September once he's on a team if that's the case. I really hope I'll have the Bronco by then.
If no Bronco, what type of trails/events are you thinking? Something the stock GX could handle?
-
@Huzer I have no plan right now. The options are WIDE open. We could do the white rim, we could go down to highway 12 area for the people who don't have off-roaders, we could do the swell for quicker. Many choices. Anything we do would be mild for off-roading unless people want to do a sidetrip for some more off-roadiness.
-
@HammerheadFistpunch I'm super interested, especially if my vacation time has renewed by then, and I believe that happens in September. It'll be easier to figure out for me the closer we get to whatever date ends up be chosen.
-
@AMGtech You've seen a fair amount of Utah, what would your preference be for things to do and see? I would like to generally steer clear of Moab unless its the first time for most people to the area, because its got a lot to offer for that.
-
@HammerheadFistpunch I am interested, in the lesser known portions of utah. Do not have a rugged offroader (honda ridgeline) but can "soft road" and primitive camp just fine. Activities such as hiking and camping would be on my list. I also mountain bike but would probably keep that to people who ride.
-
Man, I'd love to motor out there. Not gonna happen so I'll wait for the pics when you're all back.
-
I'm really interested but it would have to coincide either with my Supras in Vegas road trip, which is over a weekend, or with the music festival at the end of October in Vegas which is also on a weekend.
-
@derp This can be arranged.
-
@HammerheadFistpunch Man that would be really fun in the Cayenne, 22 hours is a long ways away though...
-
@HammerheadFistpunch Sounds good. I'll be in Moab for the Bronco Offroadeo in August, so exploring elsewhere sounds good to me.
-
@HammerheadFistpunch I've been getting real jelly lately that all the cool landscapes in the country are west of the Mississippi. The endless deciduous forests in the east are pretty and all but there's only so many you can see before it gets boring.
-
@HammerheadFistpunch if you're thinking of doing it during the week, i can likely make it happen to drive down saturday/sunday before, do utah things for a day or two, head to SLC to meet up with my friend, then head down to Vegas Wednesday for the Thurs-Sat Vegas meet, then longball home or something. Alternatively, SIV, depart Vegas Sunday, then do desert things.
Only wrench in the plan is I want to drive the Supra this year, but that remains to be seen if it'll happen.
SIV is OCT 6-8 and I have to be back home in time for drill the following weekend.
Music Festival is Saturday the 29th.
-
Definitely interested, although minimum four days travel there and back means I'd probably be looking at flying in and renting something.

I think you and @HammerheadFistpunch can find a Utah-themed compromise in Vegas
-
I would be very interested, but I think I'd have to fly and rent a car to make it viable. I would need two to three days of driving each way since my wife can't handle 24 hours in the car in one go. So, it would be a round-trip flight. Let's see.... ouch. Flights for October start at $800 per person round trip.
Maybe I can convince her to drive....
-
@HammerheadFistpunch Absolutely interested. I'll have the full camping setup pretty much dialed in on the Camaro by then, so I'll likely be able to go anywhere for any amount of time (breakover angle willing lol)
-
@HammerheadFistpunch it would feel silly for me to say no.
-
@PowderHound No adventure would be complete without an old hilux.
-
I'm interested in the lesser known parts of UT. Having only been here a year, I'm still exploring the state. Camping, hiking, fishing are big interests for me. And my Subaru is more capable than one would think.
-
I miss Utah already. Sadly I can't make it back in time for a meetup in the fall. Wife and I will be working our way down the West Coast. Will probably swing around in April. Looks like Jeep week is April 1-9th, I think I arrive around the 9th. Wondering if I should change that so I can enjoy the spectacle. It's so insane I heard the staff at City Market celebrate making it through during a morning staff meeting while I was shopping.
-
@HammerheadFistpunch I could potentially be interested in this, especially if it found it's way towards the Southern part of Utah. Like @Highlander, I would also be in the soft-roader camp with the Ridgeline, but I'm perfectly comfortable in the middle of nowhere a long ways from anything or anyone. I'd probably also be tempted to bring a mountain bike on such a trip.

@HammerheadFistpunch if you could also opine on fun places in Southern Utah that would be great. While good for the general conversation I am being selfish here as I will be in Lake Havasu through February 25th and will need to find a place for March. I think we are starting to look at a place called St. George Utah.
-
@Albino-Kangaroo I know St. George very well. Lots of stuff around there.
