One car gone and another car acquired
-
Welp, after a few days, I have sold my Acura RSX for $1700 to a guy who drove 3.5 hours from Arkansas. Still have a set of OEM wheels with almost brand new Pirellis that I’m hoping to get $300 for to meet my goal of $2000.
However, in a surprising turn of events, I have been gifted a car. My parents have decided to give me their old 2007 Honda Odyssey, the first car they bought new. It’s running strong with around 170k miles. It’s got a fair share of dents and dings (everyone in my immediate family, myself and my wife included, have hit something with it). Interior is super clean though and in great shape. Only known issues are a door lock actuator not working (on a Honda, never woulda guessed /s), a minor oil leak, and the transmission is just starting to get a little rough but still has a good amount of life. It’s a good reliable van and although I’m not sure how long we’ll keep it, it’ll definitely serve us well (and yes, my parents are completely fine with us selling it whenever, in fact they expect me to do it asap). It’s a good van and I’m very happy to have it.

@dtg11 -- My impression of those is a virtuous circle of cars that last and last and people who keep 'em and keep 'em.
-
@dtg11 Are you going to just sell it or drive it around for a while.
I also don't envy your position of needing a new car in this market on a tighter budget.
-
@dtg11 at 170k miles, it's still got about that many miles left in it. Now might be a good time to sell it if you have something new lined up that isn't ridiculously priced....but on the other hand, you can't beat free.

@e90m3 plan on selling soon-ish. Yukon is getting the boot next. I’m not planning on keeping it for a while, but also not planning on selling as soon as I get the title.
-
@Mr-Ontop right now there’s a tentative purchase potentially happening end of the week, sales from this would go to bolster out savings and maybe pay for an anniversary trip for my wife and I.

an anniversary trip for my wife and I.
We did one of those, and I recommend it. We actually did it the month before because of her schedule, but close enough.

@dtg11 transmission drain and fill, maybe? ask your tech, sometimes they recommend that instead of a flush to prolong older transmissions. Our '05 has 220k and going strong, so I don't doubt it'll serve you well! Plus the J Series just sounds so great

Haha nice. My dad just gave me his '06 Ody last winter too!
212k miles, still going strong. Did the t-belt, WP, etc when I got it and it's great for the kiddos. -
@theturbomrt Nearly identical camera angle too. Must be the Ody's best angle
-
@amoore100 that’s the plan!
-
@dtg11 Are you going to be purchasing a newer car that is financed?
-
@Cars not planning on financing anytime soon. I’d need quite a bit more monthly income to be able to comfortably finance, so I’ll just be paying cash for now
