5838.6 km, 584.6 litres of fuel, 70:12 hours, and apparently $1101.59 in gas money (which feels like I missed a stop somewhere) I’m home. What a great trip, minus today.

Google Maps says the fastest way from Calgary to Saskatoon included about 10 km of gravel roads. Not ideal, but nothing I can’t handle.

Except it’s apparently the worst road I’ve been on in a while. Horrendous ruts mixed in with deep mud gave me the choice of either slamming t Mustang into some bad holes, which redirected my mirror and launched my phone; or, get stuck in a spot with no cell service.

Flagged down a passing car to warn them their Civic wouldn’t make it. Sandy was a little battered, but I haven’t found any serious complications. I just popped the bumper back in.

The crew that stopped to check on me said to file complaints about the road, because apparently this is common. Which includes semi trucks getting stuck in the winter. I’ve got some digging to do on that one.

Anyway, even with a crappy last day, the trip was absolutely worth it. What a blast.

@CB Well done. That's a solid investment in a holiday.

I would say that's a pretty road...but not if I was driving an ill-prepared Mustang!

Ours is not to reason why...merely to point and giggle.

@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly With a bit more height and suspension it would’ve been great!

That gravel road looks like fun. I hated them when I was growing up, but I realize now that they taught me a lot about handling in slick conditions.

Ours weren't quite as well groomed and had a lot more trees.

We also drove stupid-fast on them. If the roads weren't laser-straight, the hills would have made for excellent rally racing. I knew of many places where we could catch air.

Never discount the possibility that you might live through it.

So basically bang on 10L/100kms. That's awesome. There's an STi at my local dealership that I strongly considered, and then I told my spouse for that kind of fuel consumption (13L/100k according to fuelly) I could be driving a V8 mustang.

Either way, still too much fuel for my budget, but if that situation changes I know which car is winning that war. Although the subie wouldn't burn fuel while it was in the shop.

Those are some bright tail lights you've got! Or is sammy sitting on the brake pedal?

@BicycleBuck It was fun up until it wasn't. I miss the chin splitter.
