Irrational Hatred With A Twist

I will admit that I have an irrational hatred for the 6th generation of the Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Particularly the face lifted 06-07 version. I think it's one of the worst vehicles GM has ever produced. They weren't particularly reliable, they were FWD, they were fat and wallow-y, and the interiors were some of the worst trash the big 3 ever released in an era where they were racing to the bottom of interior quality. Growing up in the Midwest, I saw countless numbers of them and they always seemed to be driven by assholes and drug dealers. They are terrible vehicles, and I hate them.

With that said, I'd like to play a game. I'm going to say something nice and redeeming about that car I hate. The SS version with the all aluminum 5.3 liter LS was an absolute horsepower bargain at the time. It was legitimately fast, and it finally lived up to it's stock car rounded image. For whatever reason they have found themselves in my good graces and I actually think they are starting to become cool.

The feature I like? You can spot the bad driver from a mile away.

I have driven one, and it's the worst car, all things considered, I've ever driven.

Especially considering what else was on their lots at the time. When I bought my low spec
99 Neon (9500 bucks including taxes!) they had one on the show room floor for 60k.

@Bandit I had a matchbox of that version that I played with and enjoyed. I was big into NASCAR at the time and I still couldn't stand the actual road cars.

I actually like the facelifted 06-07 version much better than the pre-facelift one @Bandit posted. At least the facelifted ones had a face that someone other than a mother could love. The old ones were a complete mess with some weird french mustache and bulging eyes.
Also, related, I had a 1998 Monte Carlo Z34 and still have a soft spot for that car, so I might be biased.

I had a '91 Grand Prix LE and an '04 Grand Prix GTP. The '04 had a better engine and traction control. Aside from that, I preferred everything about my '91. It was more comfortable, the handling was better balanced, the design was more cohesive. The '04 felt like they sent everyone out to design one part then had them come back and slap it together. It pushed like a snow plow too.

@Demon-Xanth A high school friend had a Chevrolet mechanic father and they rebuilt a salvage title GTP. It was a ripper, but CONSTANTLY had issues.

Two vehicles, both Ferds:

Ferd Ranger: miserable thing to drive, supremely robust and dependable.

Ferd Crown Victoria: underpowered by a hundred horsepower, not enough vertical room in the cabin, the most underwhelming "proper" American sedan ever built. Supremely robust and dependable.

I think the 6th gen Monte Carlo is pretty much the definition of a car for trailer trash. Yes, the SS was a performance bargain, but if ever there was a car for selling meth, this is it.

I think I'm really going to struggle to say anything nice about the Buick Rendezvous. It was just as ugly as the Aztek with exactly zero of its charm. I suppose it was painfully ahead of the crossover curve.
