Someone is gonna be looking for that
-
Probably get to the next gas station and be like shit, where'd my gas cap go.
-
Oppo Challenge: identify what that cap belongs to.
-
@p5guy-now-gtiguy Finder's keepers means it's E90's now.
-
I love the fact that I have a retaining strap on mine. And to go along with that, one of my favorite features on this car is a tiny little hook on the gas cap door that allows you to hang the cap by that strap without it touching the body. It's incredibly simple and rewarding and shows amazing attention to detail.

Duramax Chevy/GMC

@6mt_ftw Yep, I've got the same:
Of course it was broken on my S60 when I bought it, so I had to get another. Had I known, taken the new one off my totaled S40 before I handed it over to the tow truck. -
@facw But does it touch the body when you're fueling?
-
@6mt_ftw No, it hangs off the fuel door, and just barely avoids contact.
-
This almost happened to me this week when I took my MR2 to the gas station for the first time in a while. My Camaro has a capless filler so I 99% forgot to re-cap my MR2 once it was full.
-
The 'rolla has both a tether and a holder for the cap on the fuel door.
The motorcycle has a better system with the key and swing cap. Additionally you don't have to get off if you park close and have good wallet access (I don't though). -
@6mt_ftw both my cars have that, or had, the rubber broke, but there is still a place to put it on the door.
-
@exage03040 my finacee has a Corolla and didn't know that the door held the cap until I filled her car for her.

Plot twist: no one can figure it out because it's after market.
-
My gas cap has a plastic tether AND a slot to slide it into on the gas door so it doesn't hang there!
SEE, my Korean ecobox has all sorts of luxury features!!!
-
@6mt_ftw The hook on the fuel door is pretty common now. It's been a while since I had a car without that feature. I see a lot of people that don't use it when they fill up their cars, so I'm guessing they don't know it's there or they don't know what the metal clip is for.
-
@6mt_ftw I do too but we are not allowed to pump our own gas so half the time they leave the cap dangling. That car is parked for COVID winter so I mostly use my Golf as a HomeDepot/recycling center car. Since we have attendants I rigged this up for zero contact fill ups.
-
My Rampage gas cap is only ever put into the bed of the truck. That way even if I pulled a major bonehead move at least I'd still have it.
-
Would explain the green for Diesel right ?
-
@p5guy-now-gtiguy On the RWD volvos Green means premium only. That is not a volvo cap though.
-
Could be from a Tow Truck. Some of the trucks I drove had a cap exactly like that with no chain, and as the bodies were modded F550s or Dodge 5500s they would need the aftermarket cap. Whenever fueling up I put it on the bed so I wouldn't forget, but doing that was one of my biggest fears...
-
Looks like an old Ranger fuel cap, except the Ranger's was not green. Maybe a Ferd?
-
@e90m3 one ore reason I love Ford’s trap door gas fuel filler.
-
@6mt_ftw those things always break.
-
I want to retrofit one of these to my car:
-
I put the gas cap from my truck on the driver's seat when I'm filling up, for this reason.
