Flashing headlights, yay or nay?

What are people's thoughts on flashing headlights to either warn drivers of a speed-trap (illegal in some places) or to warn people to slow down for an accident, deer, whatever?

In theory, it's illegal here, but I may have done it to get people to dim their high beams when driving toward me.
