Oppo Meet Dream

Okay, so more of a proposal than a dream as it's something I've been thinking about for a while.

After everything that was 2020 and once COVID is controlled and most of us are vaccinated, I'd love to host an Oppo meet in Nevada. Easy to get to, fairly central for a large amount of Oppos, cheap and has a large amount of rental car options.

Road Warrior was set in 2021, so it seems fitting to just gather a bunch of cars in the Mojave. Seems like there would be enough places to visit, straight roads to speed on or trails to drive down.

Not sure on what "format" the meet would be (rally, scavenger hunt, group drive or combo) but it would be a 2 day meet.

@carsoffortlangley I'm in, Reno is much cooler (temperature wise) than las vegas, just as much driving and activities to do too, and they have an airport that I happened to design the security fence for about 15 years ago.

I'd definitely be in. I'll add that Utah is also beautiful. (As is CO and AZ and NM) but Utah is probably most central?

@benjrblant I think Utah is geographically central, but flights into vegas have been historically plentiful and cheap. Same with hotels, cars, food, etc.

It seems like an option that could be tailored to fit any budget.

But Utah is 100% on my list of dream Oppo meet locations, same with Glacier/Waterton National Parks and Detroit.

Hmmm, might be a long way for me to go on a shoestring budget. And rental companies wouldn't want to rent me anything because of my age. I'll probably have to sit this one out but I'll eagerly follow along. Maybe we can have a Southeast Oppo meet sometime late this year too.

@haveacarortwoorthree That thing is pretty darn robust. I've never had to do so much reading about the size of polls and gauge of chain link. I think we even put razor wire up in some areas. Shit we even put new locatable gratings over the culverts that went under the fence.

Or I can make the multi day drive out to tear up some Utah dirt in my Cruze! It's already done a good deal more offroading than lots of Jeeps. . .

Vegas is a sub 5 hour drive so I'm in no question! Just please do not do it in summer. I think it's even too hot here at the coast then.

@carsoffortlangley Just checked the airlines are still offering cheap direct Saskatoon to Vegas flights ($500round). I have no idea when vaccinations will be available to me. I still don't have a passport.
