Biden is considering Merrick Garland for AG. That would be a mistake.

Instead, he should nominate Doug Jones for the attorney general spot.
A retired judge wouldn't make a good prosecutor, especially compared to someone who made his career prosecuting KKK shit.
Garland is too weak to do the job effectively.
-
@dogisbadob I think I'm done letting retired people have important jobs.

This x1000
Glad to see Ossoff in the senate. The first millennial senator -
@dogisbadob Apparently a lot of the appeal of Garland is that Biden can then turn around and nominate someone to Garland's spot with the goal of potentially appointing that judge to Supreme Court later in his term. The intermediate appointment further cement her (Biden would almost certainly select a woman) qualifications for the top court. That's something I can get behind, and I haven't seen anything to argue that Garland is weak (though I do hope any AG selection will vigorously the corruption and lawlessness of the current administration).

Garland already retired. In fact, he has been retired almost a year, just before the pandemic started. The seat is vacant even without making Garland AG
[EDIT: he didn't retire; he just stepped down as chief judge last year, but is still on the bench. Sorry for the mistake]
-
@dogisbadob I don't think that's right? His term as chief justice ended a year ago, but I believe he's still an active member of the court. If he had retired the GOP would have appointed a replacement already.

nope, not the first to play games or game the system
-
@forsweden Ha! Though probably not true. Hell Pong (barely) predates Biden's time in the Senate. I'm sure we've had someone who at least dabbles in the hobby before.

They are causals, not gamers.

@dogisbadob Merrick Garland was a Federal Prosecutor before becoming a judge in the mid-1990's. So, he has experience prosecuting cases.
