The worst part about South Ontario. The lack of Robin's Donuts.
-
North Ontario & everything West until Alberta they are everywhere. There are some a few in South Ontario & East, but they are not common. It sucks. There are 23 of them in Ontario, most in Thunder Bay. 2 in BC. Mostly all in Manitoba & (I can't ever spell it right, but here I go) Sasakewan.
My brother is driving to BC (Prince George) tomorrow for a new job, & he asked about Timmies going west. Yes there are, but there is Robin's. Go to Robin's, I told him. -
Timmies over Robins. change my mind
-
@peter_black Robin's is miles over Timmies. It's shame they can't compete in the GTA. Their donuts are amazing, they are fresh too. Wait till Prairie Oppos arrive waving the Robin's flag.
-
With the weather, the rust, housing prices, traffic, and Leafs fans, these must be amazing donuts.
-
Never had any. I had to go to their website because the BC locations are not on googler maps.
Is he coming from East? He'd have to pick some up in Alta as neither in BC would be on his route. Lots of Tims though.
-
@the-crazy-kanuck you’ve never had a real Walnut Crunch unless you’ve had one from Robins. Tim’s are straight trash
-
I was gonna say "Road Trip" but at 273km to Zealand, NB or 345km to White River that'd be quite the coffee run!
Actually that sounds like an incredibly Canadian thing to do, maybe toss a hockey stick in the back seat for luck. But what if Coffee Time is secretly better...?
-
@zipfuel Coffee Time is low tier.
-
@classicdatsundebate Robin's apple fritters top the walnut crunch. Their cream cheese iced cinnamon buns are to die for too.
-
@exage03040 I’ve only seen the one at KingGeorge and 80th. Their donuts are made on premises and they’re really good. It’s a bit of a ...’vintage’ Surrey vibe
-
@the-crazy-kanuck so, back in the day, me and my friends would ride our BMXs to the Robbins on the other side of town so we could sit and drink coffee, smoke and play 31 without our parents running into us. Lol
-
@the-crazy-kanuck the problem is that they always looked like a good place to get stabbed!
Given RBI/Timmies' race to the bottom I doubt the quality is that different anymore and it looks like they've tried really hard to upmarket/rebrand the remaining few that haven't gone broke. I may have to go try one for lulz
-
@classicdatsundebate You rebel.
@zipfuel The one that was in the town where I live was where the old people would go. Their donuts are step above timmies.
-
Alberta here. I've never been to a Robin's.
Not a fan of Tim Horkin's. I prefer to make my own donuts.
-
@the-crazy-kanuck
You don't need them when you have Daddy O Doughnuts, Beechwood Doughnuts and Glory Hole Doughnuts...

That's not saying much since Timmies doughnuts are crap. They used to be better before they started pre-baking and then freezing them at an outsourced bakery so that all the individual locations had to do was thaw them before serving. They make them as cheaply as possible... putting low cost way ahead of quality.
-
@the-crazy-kanuck Never been, but I know exactly where one is in Regina. Worked that corner far too often.
Also, Saskatchewan: easy to draw, hard to spell.

Try the doughnuts at one of these places:
https://www.daddyodoughnuts.com/
https://www.beechwooddoughnuts.com/
https://gloryholedoughnuts.com/And then read this:
https://torontolife.com/food/five-things-we-learned-about-tim-hortons-from-the-recent-macleans-expose/Timmies doughnuts are crap. You get better doughnuts from any bakery that bakes their stuff on site.
Hell, even the Dimpfelmeyer industrial bakery on Advance rd. in Etobicoke makes better doughnuts... which is to say they're not that great either, but at least they're genuinely fresh, not pre-frozen and then thawed.

Coffee time isn't any better. They re-sell doughnuts from a 3rd party industrial bakery the same way Tims does these days... which is to say they're "never fresh"... just like Timmies.
For a good dougnut, you actually need to go to a place that bakes them themselves. Places like this:
https://www.daddyodoughnuts.com/
https://www.beechwooddoughnuts.com/

@manwich I've had Daddyos, those things are dangerous!
Will have to give the others a look. -

@manwich I've had Daddyos, those things are dangerous!
Will have to give the others a look.I bought a dozen of them for xmas last month. Mind you I didn't eat the whole dozen.... shared with my kids and GF
Thus I only gained about 3 pounds over the holidays... and had heartburn for a bit. -
Robin's is bad. They have perfected the art of day olds fresh out of the oven.

The other one is in Pemberton of all places. I'll have to stop by one day either in Surrey or doing the loop in the summer.
-
@the-crazy-kanuck Well, Robin’s wasn’t good enough to last here, with the last location closing around 20 years ago. That being said, Timmies hasn’t had fresh doughnuts since being bought out by a Brazilian corporation, and the coffee tastes like used motor oil.
-
Never heard of these Robins doughnuts. Next time I'm out west (read:I haven't been out west in 25 years) I'll have to compare, for science!
Timmies doughnuts started being disappointing when they stopped making them fresh on-site.
