This has been for sale local to me for ~4 months now, but i've always been too busy to look at it up close, and it's behind a gated parking lot that's only open from 1-5pm 3 days a week...finally had a chance to go look at it today

1976 Eldorado 500. 70k miles, not a speck of rust anywhere on the car, whole and complete, comes with spare parts, extra trim and hubcaps, vinyl roof is in really nice shape (like it has been stored inside since new)... Current owner bought it for his 76 Eldorado Concours car, he wanted an original suspension air compressor and the original bumper fillers (car comes with a set of brand new repro ones, and I could care less about originality).

Started right up with a jump after sitting for the past ~7 months, charges, good oil pressure, cooling system works, transmission works, all the electrics work, I even drove it around for a bit... I'll be honest I've kinda fallen for the thing. Hopefuily I can get my XJR sold within the next few weeks and I'll 100% buy it if he still has it and will negotiate on the price a few hundred.

@CB I wondered the same thing... the car is only about a mile from the nearest taco bell though, so....

@jminer I've always wanted one of these 70's Eldorados, after driving one, how have I been living without an 8.2L fwd couch in my life

I'm calling BS on that given those plastic bits at both ends between the body and the bumpers clearly have disintegrated into dust.

" he wanted an original suspension air compressor and the original bumper fillers (car comes with a set of brand new repro ones, and I could care less about originality)."

Ah... okay.... probably not a bad deal then. Only downside to this is you can't drive it too much or the fuel costs will bankrupt you.

@Manwich Apparently these get 8-10mpg, my truck was getting 3-4... so, this is a significant improvement

@Black-Villain Do it! The only thing better would be a convertible.

Is the front seat a biohazard or just worn leather?

@DuckDuckGreyDuck Looks very RWD to me...engine is sitting longitudinally directly between the front wheels

                                        But looks can be deceiving....

@Zaphod-s-Heart-of-Gold nope, Eldorados were FWD from 1967, same platform as the Toronado. GM went with the longitudinal layout so they could minimize the amount of unique drivetrain components needed, since the entirety of their remaining product line was RWD.

Very clever engineering, self contained Unitized Power Package, all together in one subframe assembly, and completely eliminated torque steer

@ranwhenparked I know it's all just so ridiculous. Clever engineering used in a terrible way.

Not that this car would ever do any actual handling, but I can't help but think that a 5,000lb car with a sub-200hp 500CI motor doesn't also need to be hindered by driving the front wheels.

@Zaphod-s-Heart-of-Gold Well, it didn't start out that way, the first FWD gen was more like 400hp and 4400lbs

But, that was also gross hp, so it was as meaningless a number as any '60s muscle car boasted

@Zaphod-s-Heart-of-Gold those wheels are what told me it's probably FWD. If that's an Eldorado they went to FWD in 1967.
