This should be a lesson to everyone - don't hold fireworks while lighting them, especially big ones.
These two teenagers learned the lesson the hard way. They are shown here attempting to light a mortar to throw. There wasn't nearly enough fuse and the mortar went off in their hands. The teen in red lost both of his hands. The one in black lost three fingers and both of his eyes were injured.
The full video can be accessed below. Be warned. It's graphic.

!@#! That is an unfortunate way to learn typical stupid teenage lessons. nah, I don't feel any need to click the link. Your description was quite sufficient.
I'm not a risk taker (not anymore anyway, after managing to live this long despite having done a few those typical stupid teenage moves).

@bicyclebuck Definitely not going to watch that one. Play stupid games etc, but you never want that to happen to anybody.
-
@vincentmalamute Whilst poking around on Reddit I made the mistake of looking at a subreddit called 'Dead or Vegetable'. Word of advice - don't go there.

always use a stick lighter

Yup. Won't go there.
Back when I first discovered the internet, I did go to all those places to see all those things. It may be useful to do that to see the actual depravity of people. But no, I'm not one of those people.
-
@6mt_ftw Reddit is still a dangerous cesspool in some corners.
-
@bicyclebuck holy shit, if they don't learn a lesson or two from that, they never will
i'm guessing this was in America somewhere? the hospital bill to fix the hands will be expensive.
-
@6mt_ftw sounds like a good sub-reddit

San Antonio, Texas.
Thereโs no fixing that. Heโll be fitted for a pair of prosthesis after the stumps heal. You can bet it will be expensive.
-
@bicyclebuck Not watching that!
-
@bicyclebuck ive had enough of those mortars not go all the way down in the tube and fail to launch that I'm officially done with them.

You are correct - do NOT watch it. I wish I hadn't

That's a scary situation. The right approach to a failed launch is a cautious approach with a bucket of water.

@pip-bip As @BicycleBuck says, no fixing this (maybe in the future we'll be able to do better), but yeah things will be expensive. I'm sure the hospital's bill will be at least six figures. The good news is that if they are insured, they'll have an out of pocket maximum. The bad news is that that out of pocket maximum can be up to around $17,000 for a family (more likely it will be in the $5000-$10000 range). And the other bad news is that those numbers are only for in-network care (there's usually another higher limit for out-of-network care), and in emergency situations it's very easy to end up getting out of network care (Congress just passed legislation to protect consumers from this surprise billing, but it has some areas it doesn't cover, and doesn't take effect until next year). And of course many people still don't have insurance.

@bicyclebuck luckily those tubes are strong enough to handle the detonation. Haven't had any fail to go off, they just explode in the tube. Still don't want to get my bits blown off.
IMO those "batteries" are much safer, enjoyable for the person launching. The effects are not as dense but just as big. Going to buy pretty much exclusively those from now on.

I remember when I first discovered Ogrish. That was unsettling, even though in my historical ramblings I've come across hundreds of photos of dead and dismembered soldiers. Somehow that's easier to digest, since war is supposed to be deadly.

@ttyymmnn @BicycleBuck Me neither.
-
@facw Because amputee, there may be some other resources available to him.
-
@bicyclebuck Yeah, not watching that. But at least they're wearing masks. Safety first!

I never watch something where I know somebody got seriously hurt or killed. It feels dirty and disrespectful.

I agree - I completely underestimated the carnage and didn't read the description under the photo in the OP. Completely my fault. I'm not squeamish of faint of heart, but damn..........that was too much. Feel so bad for the kids. Yeah, they were stupid, but who here wasn't a stupid kid at one time.

@bicyclebuck I feel for the mothers of those boys. Simply imagining that video is too much for me to contemplate.
