As I anxiously watch the Georgia returns, I learn about the racial divide in dog ownership.

(be sure to watch the ads)

@just-jeepin What are they trying to prove? Yes, different ethnicities have different opinions on pet ownership. Plus, you also need to factor in the financial strain of taking care of a pet combined with the fact that most African Americans live in areas that have higher crimes meaning they will more likely have a dog for protection. And the fact that dogs like German shepherds are used by law enforcement and the negative policing impact to African Americans means they are going to shy away from those breeds. All I'm saying is that Warnock loves his dog and his ads help demonstrate that he is not some inhuman radical that hates non black people. If a dog helps him with that, great. I don't have a pet but I don't think your pet should be a refection on your political beliefs.

What we obtain too cheaply we esteem too lightly.

Interesting read into a subject I've definitely never thought of before. Living in an large city with a dog I can tell you there is definitely a bit of a racial divide in overall attitudes towards dogs. Some people will straight up cross the street when we're out walking, and I have a goldendoodle, not some scary rotweiler, shepherd or pit mix.

@just-jeepin Ha! love the "dog shit" ad... Well done, Preach.

I wonder how long and hard he thought about changing his Twitter handle to that instead of Rev. Senator-Elect Raphael Warnock. 😁

              @krustywantout Yeah, but...

              https://www.washingtonpost.com/video/politics/how-would-i-look-walking-a-dog-on-the-white-house-lawn-trump-on-owning-a-dog/2019/02/11/a2c7506b-a842-48c8-b94a-4e256f685432_video.html

"Don't have any time", my ass.

Yes, having a dog shouldn't matter, but in Trump's case, it makes perfect sense that he wouldn't, as the man has no shred of empathy and cares for no one but himself (no human, much less a dog). He would throw Ivanka to the wolves if she dared to publicly disagree with him...

@dipodomysdeserti No kidding. It’s hard to look at that video and see a Marxist who’s coming to take away your freedom; I have to think those ads were hugely influential to middle of the road voters.

Brilliant, whoever dreamed these up deserves a promotion. I don't even want to see Marie Antoinette Loeffler's ads.

Regarding 45 and a dog, I suspect it's because even his dog would hate him.

@fintail I've been curious about the ads that apparently attacked his church, but not curious enough to seek them out.

A lot of speculation that blacks turned out in droves in part thanks to their heritage under attack (plus of course Stacy Abrams is awesome).

@just-jeepin One can just hope the demographic changes and maybe GOP arrogance continue. Too slim of a margin to rest easy, but if they keep it up, maybe the next margin will be bigger. GA is quite a place, with a very diverse metropolis, and outlying areas who haven't gotten over 1865. One can hope the latter will shrink with time, although a little gerrymandering can work wonders.

I suspect the Trump side of the GOP, especially on a national level, is going to trot out some real wannabe fascists (see Hawley) to get the easily misled base going.

May you live in interesting times.

I remember a Kinja argument with someone who didn't make the Hyphen transition, making these fundamental points about Trump's complete dysfunction, and being told I was delusional. Probably Immoral Minority, although SBA and I butted heads too.

I think if anything I understated just how dramatically broken Trump is.

@just-jeepin The best/scariest part is how 45 has derailed harder during the past few months than early on - he seems more reckless now than ever, maybe because he knows the jig is up. I'm waiting for him to tweet to his glorified brownshirts to literally engage in violence. And I suspect the broken-ness is hereditary - his oldest kids are in on it too. Any objective person can see this trainwreck, and it is interesting and depressing to se observations on this mess from those in other nations.

I never grasped the view of some old participants, beyond weird past bitterness or wanting to dodge tax responsibility (profiting from an expensive system but not wanting to pay it forward - the 'I got mine, you can go screw yourself' mentality).

@davesaddiction I think any dog would realize that Trump is a lower life form and wouldn't yield to his commands. Too bad Trump's supporters don't have the same rationalization.

@davesaddiction Wasn't there a line something like daddy would disown junior if he lost?

Here we are, he lost fair and square. I'd have disowned junior ages ago.
