Any suggestions for mobile apps that aren't trash that I can use to kill time standing in lines/on the airplane? I heard there's a Forza mobile game, but couldn't find it on the app store...

@awesomeaustinv The forza game is like forza tap or something. It’s very stripped down. The mobile game I would recommend is to tomb of the mask. Just remember to turn off your wifi when you use it.

Get a Chess app and see how high of a level you can go until you can't beat the computer.

Ingress. Join me as part of the Enlightened (green). The basic premise is that there are portals which must be captured and controlled. The portals can be connected to create fields, building points for your team. Everyone starts out small until you can build enough experience to create some epic fields. Here's what the Orlando area looks like right now:
Each of the points is a portal which has been captured. Airports and Disney are highly valued because there's a barrier to access - either because of security or you have to pay to enter. Here's what the Orlando airport looks like right now;
As a new player, you won't have enough power to tear down that many portals, but there are lots of open (grey) portals to be captured and that's a chance to build experience quickly. To capture a portal, you have add resonators (up to 8). To connect portals together, you must have a key to the remote portal and those can only be transferred physically by an agent going from one location to another. You get keys, resonators, weapons and more by "hacking" portals, both your team's and the enemy's. Agents can also drop items for others to pick up, making it easier for newbies to progress quickly.
When fields are created, any portals caught under the field cannot be connected. Since fields are worth points, the other team will work to disable your fields by attacking the portals.
When I travel to South Texas, I'll carry extra keys for Louisiana locations with me so I can drop them to agents in Texas. By coordinating with other agents on your team, some truly epic fields can be created. The biggest I've thrown so far spanned from South Louisiana, to Tulsa, to South Texas, fielding over Houston in the process. That's probably a bit too much for now, but this is a great opportunity for you to get your feet wet with the game.
Here's their official explainer for the game:

@BicycleBuck so what your saying is a frequent traveler is beneficial....especially one that can be inside valuable targets without paying to be there?...
we should talk.
-
Drive the Thunderbird instead of flying (although driving that eta of ‘bird is still kinda like flying).
I live nearby and Can suggest some local stuff if you have out of park time planned. Old Town (just outside the Disney gate) is a great attraction on Saturday afternoon/evening as they host a classic car show and cruise every week.

Frequent travelers are a boon to the people trying to organize big events. That field I mentioned took coordination between people in four states and at least four major cities. Portal connections can’t cross, so really big fields depend on lots of people clearing out any interfering lines. Connections going near urban areas are really hard to set up. That’s why big connections across oceans aren’t as big a deal.
The value of a field is a function of how much populated area it covers. A field covering a town could generate more points than a field covering the Atlantic Ocean.

@StreetsofPerth You know how the trolleys in Disneyworld are pulled by horses? Well, fun fact, horses have a tendency to make big poops in the middle of the street! So Disney, being obsessed with cleanliness, has made sure that as soon as any horse drops a load, a staff member comes over as quickly as possible with a poop cart and shovel to remove the foul brown. But, since Disney wants everything in the area to fit the old-timey vibe, they don't use your typical plastic janitor cart for the poop. No, they have fancy wooden poop carts with wood-spoked wheels, pinstriping, and everything! I was so impressed with the attention to detail, that Disney would even put effort into making the poop carts look pretty, that I took a picture of one. And then I forgot to take pictures of anything else for the rest of the trip...

@orneryduck I wish! But 1. The Thunderbird is currently not roadworthy, due to a faulty wiring harness that I'm still saving up money to replace, and 2. I live in Idaho. That's a long drive for any car, let alone an unrestored 56 year-old gas guzzler during a fuel crisis.

@awesomeaustinv Huh, I had no idea about the horses. It makes perfect sense though. It's nice that they have such attention to detail.

Most of the carriage horses I've seen in cities use bags slung under the horse's butt to catch the poop before it hits the ground. I did a quick survey and it looks like Disney does use bum bags at least some of the time.
But there are plenty of pictures of Disney horses without the bags.

@awesomeaustinv I was at Disney two weeks back and thought of your post as the parade went by complete with royal pooper scooper...
The Play Disney app has some games that are tied to the ride with the idea that you play them in line. Most were kind of kiddy (Peter pan) but the Star Wars area has a full data pad with side missions and even ways you can "hack" the environment to make interactive things happen like the droids whistle or intercept transmissions from antennas. It'll translate all the alien language signs signs too.
