      Motorcycle licence, that is 🙂
School starts on June 6th. To celebrate, I picked up a set of gloves to go with my new helmet. I'll wait until I start riding before I buy the rest of my gear.

@ClassicDatsunDebate Congratulations! You might want to go ahead and order your great now though, to make sure it all fits and give you time to break it in.

@ClassicDatsunDebate congrats! Remember to take it slow and not hit more than 120MPH on your Hayabusa in the first week.

I was thinking I should hold off until I get a couple of parking lot lessons done. Hedge my bets maybe.

@ClassicDatsunDebate You want to give yourself a chance to drop the bike in no gear before you buy gear? Or are you really unsure if you want to ride?

Pre-Pandemic was better because most riding schools would provide you waist up (Gloves, Helmet, Jacket) and just asked you to wear jeans and shoes.

Typically riders would buy their gear after the completing the parking lot test (I did after first road ride). New riders also look poser in premium full gear, especially if decked out in leather AlpStars or Dainese.

Usually I suggest riders to pick up all their gear at the same time as shops tend to give you a deal with a bulk buy (which is why it's better than dealing with Fortnine or Revzilla; Online has deals only on their clearance items).

                                Happy Friday!

Factor the gear purchase into the bike purchase. I’m an ATGATT (all the gear all the time) guy - some aren’t. I’m not going to tell you what to wear. Do what you want. Some wear everything - some wear next to nothing.

I was starting a long post but I don’t have the energy and there’s plenty of info out there. Keep your head on a swivel and be calm while riding. Impatience/road rage on a bike is a death sentence. The only close calls I’ve ever had riding on the street were due to impatience or anger.

Buy a copy of David Hough’s Proficient Motorcycling. It’ll not only improve your street-riding but it’ll make you a better 4-wheel driver too.

                                Couple extra thoughts:

                                1. Open-face helmets don’t protect your face
                                2. Sprint down the street in shorts and a tank top then dive on the pavement - multiply by 10 - that’s a low-speed get-off with no gear on a motorcycle. And that doesn’t count if the bike lands on you.

Not trying to scare you off of road-riding. I love it! Just laying out some things from experience. Putting off gear purchase is not smart in my opinion.

Got on my soapbox and forgot to say Congratulations!

Good point. It’s more about what style of riding I’ll actually like. I already picked up my helmet but I want to make sure which type of bike I’ll actually like to ride before I buy boots and jacket.
In the back of my mind, I might be hedging, just in cast I don’t enjoy it. I can’t see that because I used to ride a lot when I was younger and always loved it….but time takes a toll so you never know.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be ‘all gear all the time’ as well.

@ClassicDatsunDebate The obvious answer here is to get at least 3 motorcycles, so no matter what gear you get to start off with it'll match the style of at least one bike. Otherwise, just get some good quality general purpose gear. Unless you know you're going to the track or going off road, you don't really need anything specialized. Just make sure you've got CE certified armor (preferably level 2) on your joints at minimum.
