Never seen such bullshit

As notated yesterday, I broke a wire going to the fuel vent solenoid by looking at it too hard. This wire is weirdly wedged in to the corner of the solenoid. A bit hard to see but there are some strands of wire still flush with that white part in the circled area.
The wire goes through that hole and then is melted or something on the backside with this hard black stuff. At least I think that’s what’s happening.
Of course, this part on its own does not exist for sale anywhere I can find leaving me with few options.
- See if I can put heat to the black stuff on the backside and melt it off to poke new wire through.
- Attempt to shove some wire in to touch the old wire and solder it together.
- Run without a wire and hope things work fine
- Go the nuclear route, say to hell with this carb and buy a weber 32/36 to the tune of about $600.
-
- cut off plastic
- solder on new wire
- cover area with JB weld
- sacrifice a chicken to satan

You forgot step 5: End up buying the expensive thing that works the first time

@PowderHound where does it vent to? A charcoal canister or the intake..
If it hasn't been working well it cold impact the truck running rough too. If it vents to the intake and hadn't been closing when the truck is running it can make it run rich (venting fuel vapors into intake).
I'd first try just putting it back on and blocking it off, see if the truck still runs okay that way.
-
@jminer it vents to a charcoal canister
-
@PowderHound ok. Then it shouldn't impact how it runs. Just vapor emissions while the vehicle is off (probably).
You can install an inline valve to the charcoal canister and trigger it off ignition to restore functionality of the original part is not available.
I'd bet you could just block that port and be fine though.

@Highlander Didn't cut any plastic off. Shoved the wire in the hole. Threw a bit of solder on there. JB Welded. Waiting to cure before I move things around but it passed the test being in the right resistance level. Hunting for a chicken.

You should confirm if @Satan wants chicken. He might be in the mood for beef!
