Here is Johnny, sleeping on the hardwood floor
Johnny’s bottom is touching a memory foam dog bed. 10 ft in front of his nose is a bolstered dog bed with a memory foam pillow on top.
20 for away is another bolstered dog bed, with an old throw pillow on it.
He is inches away from a plush rug.
But no, he chooses the floor, and he plops down so hard, I fear he’ll have a concussion. He’s not hot - house is nice and cool and he’s not panting. He’s just a little weirdo.
In other news, we just scheduled his boy parts removal for 5/24, and I feel so bad that I’m putting him through that, although I know it’s the right decision.
-
Dogs are weird that way. Rocky is lying about two feet from his kennel which has a comfy cushion inside.

Lil' Mack just went through it last week and he did well. He over-extended himself a couple times playing in the first couple days, which resulted in a yelp and much panic but no harm done and he is almost at 100% now on mobility.
On his way to the vet for the deed:
Judging looks on the way home from the vet, later that afternoon:
-
@BicycleBuck Tile splat position. Labs love it.
-
@MUSASHI66
You didn't want to save the news for Far Side Friday? -
@orneryduck Oh no Lil’ Mac, you’re a eunuch now!
I presume Johnny will be similar to that. I’m fairly confident he won’t like me much that night.
-
@MUSASHI66 Fry does the exact same thing. No dice for the many soft, dog-dedicated surfaces.
Our kitchen has a cold concrete floor and he absolutely loves it on the warmer days. -
@Roadkilled That’s the best FS ever!!

I call it "Puddle of Dog".
-
Floor is cooler. It’s like buying a cat toy. They will ignore the toy but play with the box it came in.

@MUSASHI66 Got my dog spayed 10 days ago, will get her stitches (and cone) removed on Monday. It's a major pain in the ass babysitting her 24/7. Also, got her chipped at the same time.
-
@benjrblant Makes me feel stupid buying all these beds and toys when they seem to amuse themselves with sticks and branches and cement floors.
-
@MUSASHI66 Oh doggy!
-
@WasGTIthenGTOthenNOVAthenGTInowA4 He'd love you right back
-
@MUSASHI66 he is back to his usual self now, still very attached to me and no ill will once the fog of surgery wore off
Time will tell what the hormone drop over the next two months does to his temperament. He is pretty chill already and I didn’t notice much difference between my old Malamute before and after, other than the lack of randiness.
Mack loves to crash land too, has done it since day one, and now that he has more gravity to him (22lbs of Cairn!) he shakes the earth a bit.
-
@MidEngine It should be much easier on a boy dog. We are also going to chip him, and fix the little umbilical hernia he has.
After 20 weeks of looking after Ellie after her knee surgeries, few days will be nothing for us.
-
@MUSASHI66 8 month old puppy wants to play, hard. Also, she normally goes out her doggy door to do her thing, taking her out on a leash in the pouring rains sucks. It's exhausting
-
@orneryduck I never noticed much of a change when we fixed Bruno. Johnny has started to express his displeasure with certain dogs at the dog park, and I hope that goes away with the gonads.
-
@MidEngine They almost need to include a mild sedative for the first week if the dogs is young and energetic. It sucks having to stop them from playing, but that is all they want to do as soon as the drugs wear off.
I have three dogs, so one of them is always interested in playing. The things we do for our dogs...
-
@MUSASHI66 The sedatives make her super hyper, opposite reaction. Great pup, but this hasn't been a fun experience.. grateful we only have to do this once (if she doesn't rip her stitches out playing).
-
@MidEngine That is weird to say the least. Did you check if they gave you the right drugs??
-
@MUSASHI66 yup. Acepromazine 25mg
-
@MidEngine Vey weird. Give her some Red Bull and see if she sleeps. Just a joke, don't give caffeine to dogs
-
@MUSASHI66
My Jackie used to push all the carpeting out of her dog house and relax on the hard wood floor. When she could get concrete, even better. Dogs are strange.
