Got some down-time while travelling to go see a car, AMA
-
Long story short, someone found my weakness:

Now I'm waiting in an airport to go see and hopefully purchase it. The seller has been responsive, and neither they nor the car have raised any red flags so far. It's unmodified, accident-free, PPI'd, and serviced recently, with supposedly no outstanding issues apart from desperately needing new tires (which is being resolved as I type this) and some negligible cosmetic flaws (no worse than front lip scrapes). Here's hoping it all checks out well in-person.
In any case, I've got about
threeseven (EDIT: thanks, crazy Denver winds) hours of airport waiting time ahead of me and I'm not seeing the car until tomorrow morning, so AMA.Duck-sized horses for me, btw.

@t0ast What's the fastest and slowest cars you've owned?
Also, that green is spectacular.
-
-
@t0ast BRG, Biscuit interior, only thing that could be improved is 06+ seats. I’ll take it! Oh wait you are getting it.
-
@t0ast gun to your head, you're given two options. Spinner rimz, or truck nuts on the front and back?
-
@t0ast Sweet! Great colour too. Have you ever climbed in and out of an Elise before? Its toight.
-
@t0ast Ask you anything? You did see the engine cover, right?
-
@WasGTIthenGTOthenNOVAthenGTInowA4
Slowest: 1994 Plymouth Sundance with the sub-100HP 2.2L engine and 3-speed auto. At least it was relatively light.
Fastest: 2019 STI in a straight line, Exocet around corners.
-
@AestheticsInMotion That's a tough one, but my gut reaction says double truck nuts. Less unsprung mass.
-
@ClassicDatsunDebate Yep, I rented one back in 2015. Ingress and egress was certainly an ordeal, but I fit pretty well inside. I recall it being actually a smidge better than my former NC Miata to sit in, space-wise.
-
@e90m3 Of course. I'm also a fan of "Lift Off Throttle, U Spin".
-
@t0ast that looks so very good! Those also seem like they're at a sweet point in price.
-
@t0ast Looks like a mighty fine example, best of luck!
-
@e90m3 Pretty sure that's still a toyota engine isn't it?
Engine: 1.8 litre supercharged Toyota 2ZR-FE Inline-4. Transmission: 6-speed Toyota EC60 manual with sport ratios. Power: 217 bhp (162 kW; 220 PS) at 6800 rpm. Torque: 250 N⋅m (184 lb⋅ft) at 4600 rpm.
-
@jminer I do regret not snagging one a few years ago when they were 30-35k cars all day, every day, but it is what it is in this market.
-
@t0ast Beautiful car, I've always like the Elise. My buddy in Napa had one of the first ones imported to the US, bolted the seat to the floor and raced it at Sears Point, not licensed at the time as it had not been approved for road use in the US. It was brilliant yellow. He also had a Lotus Elite 180R, and a corvette ZR-1, and Focus SVT.
-
@Highlander They are, but I don't think the Elise got the supercharged engine.
-
@e90m3 Some did, from 07 or 08 forward if memory serves, with a few dealers willing to retrofit the factory supercharger to earlier cars as well.
-
@t0ast Having just driven my MR2 again for the first time this Tuesday, I can say the mid-engine vibes are funnnnnnnn!! Hope the Elise turns out to be the perfect car for you. Looks like pretty much the ideal spec too.
-
@t0ast Wowzers I hope it all works out! I LOVE an Elise.
-
@t0ast I'll buy it from you for $20. Message me if you're interested.
-
@t0ast Gorgeous; perfect color combo too!
-
Beauty... Hope it works out!
-
@t0ast Good luck! That green is awesome!
-
@t0ast How high did you rev your rental Lotus? That tach is amazing!
