The Best of OPPO @ the Hyphen, Round 11
-
Continuing the great work of @DasWauto, and the work several of us carried on under his banner at OppoBlog on Kinja, sifting through the fire hose of OPPO to find diamonds among the shitposts, we present to you...
For any of you who have been featured, thank you for helping to make OPPO awesome!
Please feel free to add the image above to your post, with a link back here, if you'd like. My hope is that this small token of recognition from our community will encourage others to put in the time for long-form articles or high-quality photography, or to start great conversations, or take more trips or start more builds and share them here, and maybe, possibly, to get a few more aspiring writers and photogs their start on a career in automotive journalism, like several OPPO alums have done in years past.
Here are the Opponauts featured in The Best of OPPO since January 20th (yes... FOUR months worth - sorry it's been a while!):

FYI - user's posts are not moved over to Best of OPPO until they're at least a week old. If we've missed your article, I apologize (thumbnails and good titles help out a lot) - please feel free to send me a private message with the link, and if it's worthy, I'll add it.
Stay excellent,
Davep.s. - hey @The-Autopian, @David-Tracy @mikespin @Stef-Schrader @Miss-Mercedes @LJ909, I'm sure some of these articles are more than worthy of a feature on The Autopian or The Drive or Jalopnik. Just sayin...
Reach out to the author(s) and make it happen!

Again, my shitposting goes unnoticed.....

-
@davesaddiction four months worth of oppo gold!
-
Seriously, there is some INCREDIBLE stuff here. Hope everyone looks through to see what they might have missed.
-
One of these days I want to get something on one of the auto sites. AestheticsInMotion, Published Author has a nice ring to it.
Alternatively... Do you think The Onion needs a sarcastic, disillusioned Millennial?
-
Look through your posts, pick your top three, and send some emails. I'm sure Mercedes can advise. I can't imagine some outfit wouldn't be interested in featuring some of your stuff.
@David-Tracy and The Autopian should absolutely take @OhCrikeyTheRozzers's story about his dad, along with his bike coming to you now, and turn it into a feature.
-
@davesaddiction
Thanks for the mention! I know I have more good stories from my Duramax days. I just have to think of a few more. -
@davesaddiction I didn’t even know that ‘The Best of Oppo’ existed, rather pleased to have made the cut. The post that made it I wasn’t sure whether to do as I was unsure what the reception may have be, it went rather well. Thanks.

@AestheticsInMotion i'm a published author, but i can't share it because it's .mil related.

@derp Your Mother In Law doesn't need to know

@davesaddiction Wow... I was wondering why my stuff was getting moved. Four. Damn. Definitely an honor! I'll try and keep up a good standard... And maybe poke @David-Tracy. NATMUS would be an excellent source of articles/videos for @The-Autopian.
-
Very pleased to have my post moved to Best of Oppo. Thanks. I'll have to dig out a suitable picture for the thumbnail.

Holy crap I actually made it. Thanks so much!
-
@FourMalibus @Gabriella @KITT222 @Barchetta
Well-deserved all!
I always like to add some of these amazing conversations that Opponauts kick off. Thanks for starting a great one for us!
-
@davesaddiction So what is the criteria for 'best of oppo' anyhow?
-
@ibRAD I was wondering if there was a criteria, or is it just subjective?
-
It's quite subjective...
OPPO reviews, cool builds/projects, trip reports, great stories, etc. that people have clearly put time into usually get the cut. I often add posts where someone's bought a new vehicle, as that's generally something to celebrate. One-offs are good conversations, or random stuff that just kind of celebrates OPPO or what this place is all about.
I definitely miss some, especially with the uptick in posting activity after the DT diaspora, or if the posts happen during a few days when I'm not on the site, but I do my best to take a look at most posts on OPPO, and then I bookmark the ones I feel belong.
If you think one of your posts is deserving and wasn't included, I apologize! Let me know and I'll take a look and add it if it's worthy of being included.
@ibRAD - looking back at it, your "There I Fixed It" series, all together, was probably worth a mention, and I'm sorry I missed it. Adding tags to a series of posts like that, and also linking to the previous ones, makes it easier for me to reference in these roll-ups as well.

Thanks Dave—really appreciate it, and all that everyone puts into this site.
-
That was such a fantastic tribute to your dad, and great motivation to all of us to live our lives more fully, and to see the people we love more often.
I'd encourage you to save what you wrote offline somewhere as a PDF or something, and also print it all out for safekeeping with other keepsakes from/of him. Too much stuff like this lives online and nowhere else.
-
@davesaddiction Thank you for sharing!
