@p4nc4k7 I've driven an automatic Geo Metro, this can't possibly be much worse.
-
@EssExTee Or a Chevy LUV truck even.
-
@EssExTee Nice! I would still get a new Mirage as a replacement for Humdrum someday when the time comes...

oh my god, ITS A GIANT PANEL GAP

I'll say it.
Has anyone ever driven these out on the highway or a steep hill?
I had an automatic one for a rental once. It was very bad. But it was an automatic and a well worn rental. I'd like to test drive a manual one. I have had friends who loved theirs.

@EssExTee I saw a new Mirage the other day with the effects package option. I really liked it. I wish Mitsubishi would stick a turbo four cylinder in it and make a proper hot hatch.

Yes, my brother has one he bought new last year, with the CVT. He has done several road trips, including one I took with him to pickup my STI.
It is slow compared to enthusiast cars, but the thing I realized both as passenger and while driving it is that for normal traffic, it accelerates at part-throttle well enough to keep pace or even pass other cars doing the normal part-throttle accel - most people aren’t racing red light to red light.
On the highway it gets to highway speeds easily, fuel economy differs significantly between sustained 70mph and 85mph though. Passing at highway speeds is not a quick affair unless you are on the downslope of a hill, but other than that it was comfortable, stable, and quiet enough at speed.
It has been a great car and despite the pricepoint, comes with a lot of features factory. Power windows/locks, keyless entry and start, steering wheel controls, CarPlay infotainment, to name a few. It is well built, handles well, is shockingly comfortable even for extended drives, has an honest ‘cheap car’ vibe that doesn’t feel janky, and lots of little clever Mitsubishi things (yes they can be very clever when they try) such as retaining pockets for the rear seatbelts to keep them out of the way when the rear seats are folded down. The CVT is a CVT (bleh) but it feels okay here - I’m not sure the manual would improve the experience unless they did a good job gearing it and setting up the shift linkages for good feel. Fuel economy is the real jewel of it. He averages 39-42mpg which is twice what any of my current cars get.

Also fair to mention there is a supercharger kit for these that takes them from 70hp to 100hp. I would love to have a purple or yellow one, with the supercharger and suspension enhancements.
-
@orneryduck I’m going to live vicariously through @RallyDarkstrike. I vote for a supercharged Mirage to replace Humdrum.
An Accent drove past my office the other day.

I’m sour that this is only a Photoshop jobbie and that it doesn’t exist in our world.

Be the change you want to see in the world! Make it happen!

@Napoli Humdrum's doing quite well at the moment, so she's not getting replaced anytime soon! Just got her summer shoes back on with the blue, custom 3D-printed 'Hyundai' center caps I made for the 1993 Ford Escort alloys she uses for the summer tires
Covered in a lot of gravel dust though...the joys of living on a gravel road...
The one you saw is almost exactly the same as mine (no pinstripe on mine though, and the the same color as mine - paint code 2M, which is 'Midnight Gray Metallic' (and also called 'Charcoal Gray Metallic' in some markets!

Too bad they don't offer pink or green anymore

@orneryduck I hope some of the "Mitsubishi things" aren't the engine giving up the ghost as 80k miles or less, like they used to...at least for the engines they supplied to Chrysler

Someone just got a free one from Mitsubishi for going 1 million miles in a Mirage.

@foghat1981 I always forget how much Butthead sounds like Hank Hill. I seem to remember some clip out there (likely a fan edit) with Hank yelling at those two.

@DuckDuckGreyDuck MUSHROOM MUSHROOM
My youngest has crib sheets with badgers and mushrooms all over them. My wife was so proud when she showed them to me.
-
@nerd_racing My experience with them says that this is the exception rather than the rule.
-
@DSM_OR_DIE God I love that Colt Ralliart. I’ve been pining for one since the day they came out. Too bad we never got them in the US.
-
@Demon-Xanth The eurobeat intensifies!

@Mr-Ontop I have some experience with low budget unloved cars. Most of them had issues due to neglect that a lot of cheap economy cars suffer with. But I have also known a lot of people who have also had the dreaded crank walk and timing belt snaps with mitsubishi cars.
