Ferrari coming out with a new model called the Piero

The Ferrari Piero will have a Honda engine and possibly an electric motor too. The setup will therefore be similar to the Porsche 918.

It is named after Piero Ferrari, the illegitimate son Enzo didn't acknowledge until after his wife died. In that spirit, this "illegitimate Ferrari" using a Honda motor and other shit will make it the most reliable Ferrari ever

The Honda engine will be called have VTEC of course, since it's a Honda. Other features:

• 5 valves per cylinder "Cinquevalvole"
• redline of 11,000 rpm
• VTEC engagement at 6000 rpm (7000 rpm in California)
• California-emissions models will also have a urea tank that pees into the exhaust when VTEC is engaged
• Bore is 92 mm
• Stroke is 90 mm
• CR is 12.5:1
• 338 hp at 10,700 rpm
• 193 tq at 9200 rpm

It will be paired with a Honda CVT. Fake gears will not be programmed into this transmission. This marks a departure from Ferrari's racing heritage because CVT's were banned from racing 30 years ago.

A Honda-made 7-speed manual will be available on the companion model called S2400. The Honda S2400 will only be available in manual, while the Ferrari Piero will only be available in automatic and will probably cost around double the price of the manual S2400.

A base model Piero will start around 180-200k, while the S2400 will start just under 60k. Honda has not ruled out making an Acura version to slot in between the S2400 and Piero; if it happens, the Acura will likely be priced in the 100-120k range.

"This is something we really, really wanted to do for a long time," said an insider who spoke under the condition of anonymity. "We saw Volkswagen do this successfully with the R8 and Gallardo" [and later, the Huracan], "so we thought we could try that too. We had actually started considering making an automatic Viper to rebadge as a Ferrari called the 810 Viperelli, but Sergio [Marchionne] wouldn't allow it because he only wanted the shitty Italian engines, but now that he's gone, we can actually use real engines."

All S2400s and Pieros will be manufactured at the Honda Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio for global distribution.
