I don't know how many people remember Gbodyman from Old Oppo. Like... long ago. Anyway he's writing for the Autopian now. I'd like to comment, but having another account to worry about my passwords with is one too many. Anyway, he wrote this very good article about why Honda infotainment broke, as a few other cases.

I found something interesting about it, though, and that was him mentioning Q100 standards for temperature. The hard bottom of the range is -40 C/F. What's amusing about that to me is that my vehicles all often operate below that limit! Wild, considering how many people live in colder places than me, but clearly not enough to not shrug your shoulders and go "eh, good enough".

@CB Part of the reason for -40 is that’s about as cold as you can go with conventional refrigeration systems, and cryogenic systems are really expensive to run. As is shipping stuff to the Arctic and waiting for a cold day. So limits tend to get set based on what’s economically practical to validate.

@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi that's a pretty cool fact. Shows how the limit of the testing equipment sets standards for products, rather than limits of the products themselves.
