Obligatory Tyre Post

I noticed while I was working on the MF40 that the front tyres were a bit deflated. So was one of the big drive tyres too but I had to pump that up before I even got it out of the shed.
Now, it's fair to say that I knew these tyres had a bit of age on them and aren't in the best shape. However....
...on close inspection, I felt rather wary about putting 35psi back in these babies. Fortunately, they didn't go bang!
Also fortunately, these are 7.50R16 LT tyres which are a reasonably common item. Less fortunately, both front wheels are backed with cast iron wheel weights...that I'll have to remove before taking the wheels down to the tyre shoppe.
Oh and the tyres are so old that they are...
...made in Australia.Back in one piece!

@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly about those tyres
-
@pip-bip
Yeah...they might come in pretty high in the top five things to spend money on in April 2022. I'm not sure I can handle the suspense of their inflation too many more times. -
@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly You can probably get some take-offs from someone's new 70 Series for cheap.
-
-
@StreetsofPerth Toyota haven't specified them on the 70 Series for ages...235/85R16, just like our farm ute wears.
Honestly, though...it has these tyres because they are cheap compared to the much more substantial tri-ribbed agricultural tyres it should have...
-
@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly I thought they were now something weird like 205/100R16 LTs on the Workmate models? Either way, you're right that the Massey Ferg should really be wearing ag tyres.

Holy shit, that’s carbon dating country. 70s?
I'm thinking mid 80s at very best. These tyres aren't original and the tractor itself dates from the early 70s...and Pacific Dunlop certainly closed its tyre manufacturing in Oz in the early 80s. But yeah...forty year old tyres. What could possibly go by wrong?

Something NotsilentbutreallyDeadly?
-
@іди-на-хуй-Влад-formerly-known-as-Distraxi
The thought not only crossed my mind but flashbacked on high rotation whilst inflating......which is somewhat stressful.
-
@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly Ya think? I wouldn’t go within a mile of that thing - it scares me enough pumping up the ancient tyre on my wheelbarrow.
-
@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly I used to be shit scared reinflating the split rims on my Patrol after off-road excursions. Probably unfounded, but I can't imaging how unnerving that must have been.
-
@StreetsofPerth
Ahh yes. Split rims. Like what the farm ute has....
