Audi Turbski Death and Recall
-
So two weeks ago or so, my dads S6 lost power on the highway, and had to be towed. Dealer said it was blown turbos, and hed be on the hook for half the repair.
Not 2 weeks later audi issues a recall for the turbos, because the oil filter they put was too fine, and could starve the turbos of slippy juice.
https://www.carscoops.com/2022/03/the-turbos-on-big-fast-audis-could-lose-lubrication-leading-to-failure/So the dealers gonna cover the whole 12k repair. Not bad.
-
@Shoop Tell him to go buy lotto tickets. Out of warranty German cars are no joke. Just that repair alone could have cost him more than an entire year of my lease, and the full cost is well over 2.
-
@WasGTIthenGTOthenNOVAthenGTInowA4 The smart move is to just sell the car immediately after the repair.
(Then immediately buy another one of the same model, but current gen and in warranty) -

Fixed for ya.
-
@derp Ah, but what if you want to go fast and have an interior that doesn't suck?

That's why I lease!
-
@Qaaaaa If you’re already fine with unreliable, go all out for a car with a soul and go Italian. Or go for pinnacle of British engineering and get a fast Jaaaaag.
-
@MUSASHI66 Sure, but what if I want to get to work on time most days too?
-
@Qaaaaa Are you implying that a German car out of warranty has better chance of getting you to work than an Italian or British car out of warranty, on a post about an Audi with busted turbos and a link for a big recall for more Audis? Bold move Cotton
-
@Qaaaaa genesis, lexus, etc.
-
@MUSASHI66 Hey now, my out of warranty German cars always get me to work on time, just gotta have more than one ready to go at all times.
Didn't one of your Fiats get sidelined for a month because the sunroof exploded for no conceivable reason?
Man, I really should just buy a Corolla
-
@Qaaaaa F that, get the new 300 HP Camry, live a little.

Or the new 300hp Corolla.

@Qaaaaa It was sidelined while I waited for a part, it was just fine to drive. I had exactly one mechanical issue with two of my Abarths - the old one wouldn’t start when the battery drained from sitting in the garage over winter, and I fixed that in 2 hours on a charger.
I’m not going to argue that Fiats are reliable, but I’d put them in the same place as most Germans.
-
@flatisflat I've never been in a Corolla that had a better interior than the Camry...

Mazda

@bbg2d But it probably has a similar or better interior than a 25-year old Golf.
-
@flatisflat factory fresh vs 25 years old, probably. But fresh vs as-new? I have doubts...
-
@Shoop I’d say that IS BAD. A free repair is good, but an unnecessary failure is still pretty shit.
-
@Qaaaaa Taycan?
-
@Qaaaaa hes getting a cayenne after this cause old
-
@derp as German who owns a buisness in Germany, fat chance lol.
-
@Shoop burn it and move on to something NOT German
-
@Shoop $12k! Thats as bad as air suspension failure on a Range Rover! Seriously, thats insane money!
