AMG engines...how many?
-
Genesis_Haysenhox 's post this morning got me thinking...how many AMG's motors were there?
I can think og the following:
32 : 3.2L super charged V6. mid 2000s motor
43 : 4.3L V8 The first big motor small car, stuffed into the W202 C-class
43: 3.0(?) L V6 TT the 'mid range' boosrted amg motor. In the Class, and i think the Eclass?
45 : 2.0L I4T The baby AMG
53: 3.0 I6 TT in the E class.
55 : 5.5L V8, either supercharged or not. also mid 2ks. (one of the most sold engines)
55 : 5.0L V8 TT Only ONE car came with this motor, the new SL. weird.
63: 6.2L N/A V8 The replacment for the 55. Also one of the most sold engine
63: 5.5L TT V8 Replaced the N/A V8 with a boosty boi
63: 4.0L TT V8 The replacment for the LAST 63.
65: 6.0L TT V12 for a while, the TOP motor.
70 / 73: a very very rare 7.0 and 7.3L V12 that was in the R129 SL. I've seen ONE in my life.what am i missing?

I had a stroke reading this

@e90m3 ...THEY DID A DIESEL?!?! wow.
Must do some digging.
-
@Peter_Black There might be some other weird euro only gasoline engines as well, I just knew about that oddity. Probably from a deep dive I did back when I was in college.
-
@e90m3 I found a list on wiki,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-AMG#"60",%2273%22,%2270%22,_%2255%22
intresting that they really only made like 15 motors in various tunes over the years.
weird that the OG 43 (the M113) didnt make the cut.

@Genesis_Haysenhox said in AMG engines...how many?:

So, the only way to
currentlyrecently get a manual transmission with an AMG engine is in an... Aston Martin. What was the last manual AMG car before that?Was the SEC an AMG?
-
@davesaddiction From what I understand there has never been a manual AMG car so you'll have to look for AMG motors in cars by other manufacturers, a la the aforementioned Aston.
-
@davesaddiction Did any AMGs ever come with a stick? I was under the impression they were all auto. If you could have gotten a C63 AMG with a stick and a hood ornament, I'd probably have one.
-
-
@Genesis_Haysenhox I agree and I knew this was your intent, but also AMG bulds long stroke low revving undersquare torque monsters, so "stroke" is pretty relevant to this post.
-
@DSM_OR_DIE Torque helps us play!
-
@e90m3 @davesaddiction "some AMG models in the 1980s with manual transmissions, almost all recent models have used automatics "
yea, sounds like all mercs with AMG motors were Autos. shame that. a M156 with a 6 speed would be GLORIOUS.
-
@davesaddiction That SEC, yeah that's an AMG.
-
@Peter_Black you forgot the 1.6L
-
@farscythe cute paperweight
-
@Peter_Black the 70 and 73 also went in a handful of W140s

The first joint product between AMG and Mercedes-Benz, the AMG C36 would not be introduced until 1993. For years prior to that, the two companies were cooperating to the extent that the AMG cars were being delivered with full company warranties through Mercedes-Benz dealers, however these vehicles were prohibitively expensive and therefore very rare.
Introduced in 1990, the 560 SEC AMG was perhaps the most fabled of these “pre-merger” upgraded automobiles. The car was powered with a 6.0-liter engine, producing twice the torque at half the engine speed of the original 5.6-liter Mercedes-Benz engine. On the outside, the car was fitted with distinctive AMG-designed front and rear fenders and door panels that allowed much wider wheels and tires to be fitted, inspiring the nickname “Wide Body.”
Experts believe that only 50 or so of these pre-merger 560s exist
Related: BMW just bought Alpina.

@Genesis_Haysenhox I am bored with this topic already. Bearing any changes I'm no longer interested in AMG engines.

@Highlander Different four strokes different folks.
