DOTS - another Chinese crapbox
-
2021 BYD T3 van, first BYD i've seen anywhere. plus only 2 cars in the carpark and both Chinese.
-
@pip-bip
That's an interesting spot for an electric vehicle... obviously, either the range is good or our expectations are stupid. And I'll put more on the latter. -
@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly i know, totally bizarre place to see one.
-
@pip-bip It reminds me of both Mazda Biante and Nissan Evalia (NV200)
-
@pip-bip The Linglong tire brand seems like almost a charicature of Chinese naming schemes.
Otherwise, it's like a video game car. It looks simultaneously like everything and nothing. I see some Nissan NV200 in there.
-
@WhoIsTheLeader be interesting to see how the factory fit tyres go.
-
@pip-bip Just saying that if western media named a fictional Chinese company Linglong it would be racist. Not trying to make any statements here but it seems equivalent to "Big Joe's Tires" or something similarly, well, vernacular.
I suspect they are the cheapest and most Chinese of cheap Chinese tires.
-
@WhoIsTheLeader Isn't Linglong Chinese for "wrong number?"
-
I have "LingLong Crosswinds" tires on my 87 Mercury Colony Park wagon. They work perfectly well in that application as it already handles worse than some architecture, such that tires will make zero difference. I also have only ever replaced tires due to age on that car, because i don't drive it enough to wear them out.
So they meet my incredibly low expectations of "black donut shaped things that will remain that shape for 4-5 years." -
@annoying_salman Yeah, if you had shown that to me without badging I would have told you it was an NV200 (or a badge engineered twin)
-
@SilentbutnotreallyDeadly Is this a known remote location? Because it seems like most EVs are going to be fine unless they are quite far from civilization (and that looks like a big lot to be far from people)
-
@facw BYD is great at Xeroxing cars, and, they're not even cheap anymore - I think the lowest priced one they've got is $15,000 (an electric car with less than 200 miles of range, a top speed of 63mph, and a 0-30mph time of 6 seconds)
-
@pip-bip If I didn't see the front I would have sworn that was an NV200
-
@facw
Very little of Victoria could be considered remote and this spot is in a particularly popular holiday area. However, this BYD van was/is sold in very low numbers by a direct importer (www.evdirect.com.au) as a day use business electric vehicle for city based fleets and it doesn't really have the range required to get from Melbourne to where it is... -
they need to sell it here. We need more cheap new cars and trucks that people can actually afford

@facw
just to the right of the red dot, more next to the darker green patch
