I bought another iPhone SE, but the current flavor one, rather than a 5. It’s the “small” phone. It isn’t small. Here’s how I know: even Apple thinks so. Here’s the screen:
      3629BF30-E66B-4C7C-AEC4-6F611E6FC9A8.png
Obviously, scale agnostic so you can’t actually tell. But, Apple knows the top of the screen is too far away from the bottom. So, if you double tap the home button gently, you get this:

The whole screen slides down so you can access the top without moving your hands. The screen is Too Big.

@Qaaaaa It was introduced with the iPhone 6 all the way back in 2014, and feels like a half-hearted attempt to help reachability. It still exists to the current generation iPhone.

@annoying_salman this is my first new phone since the 5SE, I swore something was broken when I first did it, on accident. Seems like the type of setting most just turn off

@Italia I unironically thought about getting a palm phone as a standalone device a while ago. But I do use smartphones as smartphones, so a decent web browser and functionality of various messaging apps is required. And personal devices for my job have certain security requirements if I want to use them for email, which is usually more convenient when I’m away from my lab or cube, so most androids are out.

@Qaaaaa The reason I love my Pixel 4a so much is because it didn't increase in size relative to my OG Pixel. The screen itself is way bigger, but it's manageable. I don't want a bigger phone... Even my large pockets would get cramped, and my hand gets cramps from reaching over the whole damn thing as it is. Is it too much to ask for a phone in a reasonable size?

I have a 13 Mini (which has external dimensions about halfway between a old and new SE) and I have that “feature” too. I think it’s just an OS thing rather than per-phone at this point to be honest. Fortunately, you can turn it off in Settings and never think about it again.

If it fits in the pocket, it's the right size.

@krustywantout How long have you had it and how is it holding up? I'm not a huge phone fan...despite being a big guy with fairly big hands my S10 is about as big a phone as I can reasonably use with a single hand. But the fold is interesting since it can be smallish for normal use and BIIIIG if I'm reading or web surfing where more space is beneficial.

                                          But man....they are not cheap

@Zaphod-s-Heart-of-Gold I've had it for about 6 months. It's been great so far. I miss the heart rate sensor but other than that it's great. It was not cheap but we got a business discount so it was probably around 40% off. It is bulky but I'm hooked.

@KITT222 I already think of my pixel 4a as a pretty big phone. This is absolutely the largest phone I would ever want to deal with. If I wanted to use a tablet, I'll just us a damn tablet. The stupid thing is that bigger phones usually mean the only way to get a bigger battery. I'd never want a top performance phone because it just means shorter battery life. I want 100% performance lasting me 24+ hours. And ideally able to eek out 2 days with minimal use. I love being able to get that with the 4a. Faster charging would be nice but 18w is sufficient for the small battery.
