great read about how fun the new F1 cars are to drive/race
-
“It’s a completely different philosophy now. Racing with these cars is pretty much like a go-kart race, so it’s good fun.”
Elaborating on that point, Ocon said: “Before, basically, as soon as we had a chance we had to go for it because you might only have one chance.
“Now you have two or three chances in the lap to overtake so you need to time it right.
“You need to make the gap at the right time and you know that if you don’t make the gap to the cars behind they are gonna have DRS and get you back.
“So yeah, it’s a different philosophy to racing, more like the go-kart days. It’s good.”

Such a change to last year, where, if you weren’t ahead after turn 1, your race might be over.

@davesaddiction And you could see it in the faces of the drivers after the race, it took a great amount of effort but at the same time you didn't have to be razor knife perfect to get the pass complete, they had slightly more forgiveness to take different chances, that it looked like it was genuinely fun again.
-
@davesaddiction well its definitely made for some fun races so far
now we just need new regulations to stop the constant whining in the hopes of gaining an advantage....it lessens the sport...tho im aware its very much a part of it
still...i wouldnt mind seeing 5 second time penalties for excessive whining
(hell...it would be hilarious and solve the problem pretty damn quick...shut up and drive damnit) -

Seems to be a thing plaguing every sport nowadays, but I'd argue it's not any worse now in F1 than it has been for the last decade.
-
@WasGTIthenGTOthenNOVAthenGTInowA4 i dont think its worse...i just think it needs to go
same as it does in other sports
glares pointedly at football -
@farscythe Soccer.
-
@davesaddiction I was going to read it, I now will…
Edit: …very good. I think the use of DRS will be something to take note of this season.
-
@WasGTIthenGTOthenNOVAthenGTInowA4 yeah ill just call it what the rest of the world calls it not what america calls it coz they are special
-
@farscythe Hey we are special! At least that's what my mom told me.......
Also: https://time.com/5335799/soccer-word-origin-england/
We call it soccer because that's what is was called by everyone. Then they changed their minds for some reason.
-
@WasGTIthenGTOthenNOVAthenGTInowA4 yeah i know the origin ....its all very british
basically its still called soccer in america coz ya'll up n left england before the memo about it actually being football went out
and then never checked your mail coz fuck the british...its probably not important anyways -
It's actually kind of shocking how well the new regs are working. I'm guessing no one guessed it was going to be as good as we've seen in the first couple races.
If any additional changes happen, they need to be pretty slight, as to not mess up what they've got right now.
-
So, y'all have got your football, and refer to others as American football and Australian football. Any other footballs?
-
@davesaddiction i thought it was yous and the aussies that referred to your footballs as such?
we dont acknowledge their existence mostly
and anyways...arent both of those modified rugby? -
LOL - well, if you never discuss them, that solves the problem pretty well.
Gaelic football!
-
@davesaddiction proud english (and european really) tradition
if you ignore it...it will go away and stop bothering you -
@davesaddiction
The only reason it was called soccer in Britain for a short time is they were all called football, association football and rugby football, association football got shortened to soccer from association and rugby football to just rugby.
Soccer reverted back, minus the association bit, probably because football made more sense, while rugby remained rugby.
American Football is what many here call rugby with padding, while we tend not to call Australian Football that but 'aussie rules' or Australian rules rugby.
