Slow drives
-
Every now and again, I need to put something on in the background while I'm working to help me bring the chill. Typically these are slow drives and nature scenics. I figure it might be fun to share these on the semi-regular.
These are real-time drives on scenic roads so they aren't quick and digestible, but they are neat IMO.
Today's drive is hell's backbone near Escalante Utah (pronounced: es ka lant). This is the old road from Boulder Utah to Escalante Utah and is famous for the hell's backbone bridge. (1:08:00)
It's a very pretty drive through the southern slope of the Abajo mountains which have alpine forests and redrock all mixed together. It's a dirt road for the majority of the way and isn't a practical way to transit the area, but its graded and generally safe for all vehicles (don't do wet). The easier way to travel between the two towns is now Highway 12, but don't feel like you would be missing out taking the highway, as it is also one of the prettiest drives in the world, at least in my opinion.
See for yourself
The only downside here is an extreme desire to visit.

@HammerheadFistpunch reminder that you can speed it up 2x, which makes it feel more realistic as far as speed.

@HammerheadFistpunch Maybe I'll have to swing south on my grand motorcycle tour next summer when I leave Denver, then hook a u-turn up the Rockies to see this.
-
@bbg2d You genuinely won't regret putting highway 12 on your list. If you do road only its amazing and the dirt options are endless.
-
@HammerheadFistpunch do people not watch YouTube videos a 2x speed?
-
@ForSweden For most videos my secret is the "1" key, I've found that most youtubers jabber for exactly 10% of the video up front, which bypasses this. Though I do miss the reminder to smash that like buttons so, I guess my loss?

@HammerheadFistpunch gotta ding that notification bell too

Looks like they were filmed from a big rig. The high vantage point really does make things look slower than they are. I had to skip around a bit and find some passing traffic to confirm that the vids weren't uploaded at 50% speed.

@Urambo-Tauro If I recall this guy uses a 4runner, but you can see in some of the shadows that he has a rig on top of his car that adds quite a bit of height.

@HammerheadFistpunch A buddy of mine just finished filming the Monumental Loop bikepacking route in Southern NM, with the intention of making a slow TV video on youtube. That will be a really slow video.
