Welcome to my workshop
-
I have set up my mobile workshop in my driveway for the Miata head job. The head is at the machine shop as of yesterday and today I had to order a set of valves since for some reason they couldnt do that themselves. All of that work is expected to be completed by about Wednesday of next week. In the mean time I have been working on some odds and ends in between doing other stuff to pass the time. Today was just removing the water pump and broken EGR pipe, cleaning up some gasket material, and taking photos of my workshop of horrors. At least its neat right now unlike midway through the tear down on Wednesday...
At least the view is pretty nice in my workshop! I also had a hell of a time getting a coolant pipe out of the water pump so I removed the whole assembly and put together this vice/c-clamp contraption on a wood post to get it apart:
And before the sunset fully, I took a short drive down the hill to get a couple good photos to round off the evening:
Bonus video of that drive down the hill (if video links work here):

Vicegrips have way too many uses. I almost feel like they're cheating?? But damn they come in handy.

@Wrong-Wheel-Drive That looks like a very fun driving road....
@Wrong-Wheel-Drive @beefchips ...btw, you can change your avatar if you like! Click your user 'letter' at top-right, then 'Edit Profile', then 'Change Picture'!
-
@rallydarkstrike Yup, definitely a fun road when there arent so many tourists on it. Mornings are the time to enjoy it. Going back up the road there was a dude on a skate board that decided to fail his trick right in the middle of my lane around a blind corner... Good thing I know not to push it in that spot for that very reason!
And yeah, I know I can change my profile image but I kind of like the giant W lol. I will probably throw a photo in there at some point though.

Some people have images that look way different than you ever imagined on Kinja.

I need to try some of those Tekton tools. They keep showing up around here. Y'all must be onto something.
-
@shop-teacher aside from the torque wrench that I broke, all of my Tekton stuff has been pretty darn good. But I may have used the torque wrench as a breaker bar a few times so that one was kinda my fault.
-
@wrong-wheel-drive yeah, can't blame that one on the tool ... Well maybe the tool that's operating it
-
@beefchips I use then instead of a flare nut wrench usually and theyβre both the most used pliers and wrench in my toolbox.
@Wrong-Wheel-Drive Excellent work! Good luck getting it back together.
-
@jminer don't speak so soon, I have still yet to put anything together. This is going to be quite the jigsaw puzzle. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up with extra bolts at the end lol. I did bag everything and tried to separate it into sections. So hopefully I'm able to figure it all out in a weekend. That first start though will be quite the achievement!

Jealous of your evening drive route
-
Nice work man. We need to do valve lashes on Sen's Miata pretty badly, but he keeps putting it off. I have also suggested to do the timing belt since it is very due. Maybe we will hit up your shop
-
@captdale-is-secretly-british yeah no way was I gonna mess with a valve job myself. $300 was a great deal for what is now basically a new top end. Putting it all together is going to be hell though lol.
-
I made it to the list woo hoo!

@wrong-wheel-drive Valve jobs are easy, but if you need more than just a re shim then yeah definitely go to a shop if you can't do it yourself.
-
1ST That's your view?! 2nd, another synthwave listener. Good Good.
-
@wrong-wheel-drive Moved to Best of OPPO.
-
@davesaddiction If only I wasnt still working on this car to get it working again. Thanks for reminding me how long ago I started...
-
@wrong-wheel-drive LOL - sorry!
-
@davesaddiction Its all good, just trying to figure out a frustrating no-spark condition. Probably planning to pay somebody to finish it since I am out of ideas.

I had to change a abs sensor on my pathfinder this weekend and this is how I ended up getting it out
And the view from behind
It was stuck in the because of all the calcium.
