@nomdeplume just water. Too much alcohol yesterday on an empty stomach and no coffee for two days has my head feeling a few sizes too small

@aestheticsinmotion Sounds like a bad combination.

Hate to say my consumption of coffee and alcohol has been higher than normal this year. Normally I don't touch the latter between early Spring and late Fall. After eating raw butter and fatty cheese to maintain energy in below 0 temps a nice warming Quad and nibs of chocolate sure hit the spot though.

Carlsberg in the .5L cans. I know it's sort of like Danish Budweiser brewed in France, but I like it, and I particularly like the half liter size.

@ttyymmnn Danish, not what I would've guessed. Sounds and looks British.

I'll be starting with a Naughty Marilyn. Maybe, I don't know what else is in the garage fridge at the moment.

@nomdeplume My family traveled to DK in the mid 90s. My wife's grandmother was from Copenhagen, and her grandfather was from Viborg, Sweden. We took a tour of the Carlsberg factory near CPH, where they brew Carlsberg, Tuborg, Coca Cola, Sprite, you name it. The Tuborg was by far the best, but I don't think you can get it anywhere in the US. When I got home, I found some Carlsberg at the store and took it home. It tasted nothing like I remembered. Then I read the label carefully, and it said, "Brewed under license by Labatt in Canada." Take all the same ingredients but use different water and it's different beer. This French Carlsberg is no more faithful to the original, but as I said, I like it.

Didn't make any of that up, for the record....

@functionoverfashion This year's seems to be quite tasty. Especially with food.

Miss being out West where you can get it much fresher. This beer was a very enjoyable discovery. Gas stations sell the large bottles and they were incomprehensibly cheap.

@beefchips I was looking pretty hard at that and the Gingerbread. Tend to leave the really thick beers until it's bitterly cold.

How is it compared to the wide field of barrel aged beers?

@nomdeplume WOW that's rough. Or, I mean, not to my taste. It's really more a barleywine. I only bought it cause it had the guinness harp on it and I thought it would be dry

@beefchips Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Stood in front of those for a good minute deciding if they would be worth trying myself or as a stocking stuffer.

@nomdeplume to be fair if you like a barley wine this will be enjoyable. Good subtle notes of bourbon and oak really do complement the malt. But yeah i skipped it and went straight to the bourbon!
