I just learned about this landmark. At what was formerly the Studebaker testing grounds there’s trees that spell out the name Studebaker. Pretty neat.
Here it is on Google Maps. BAC20643-E335-4DFD-BFFF-FB9AE504C4AC.jpeg
And an arial shot from back in the day. D819E556-4598-4213-9341-9D0183EA665F.jpeg

@hfv Reminds me that I just saw a neat target roof near LAX. Seems like a recent remodel since it’s not like that on google maps.

@hfv That's amazing. I'd never heard of that before! Wonder how many years it will be before it's unrecognizable.

Me too. Looks like it could use a good trimming, especially around the "R". The first couple of letters are in danger as well, as suggested by this (summer?) shot:

@urambo-tauro I think there's a nonprofit organization that maintains it, probably just been a few years since the last refurbishment

@hfv Meanwhile, between Houston and Austin:
                      bd08f1aa-b588-4aa9-a3bd-9b6d7d22e2c1-image.png

IIRC, this is just some bored rancher's project.

@Milky Target does this at least near airports. Here's their store near Logan:
                      05b0cb80-f106-4754-9a89-4331355da745-image.png
                      And another near O'Hare:

Haven't seen it done with solar panels making the bullseye though.

@ranwhenparked It would have to be, otherwise it would be overtaken much faster. For example, look at how much my local defunct ski slope has closed up over the past 20 years:
                      2001:

2020 (obviously the trees having leaves makes it even more closed off):

@hfv There used to be an AMC at the old AMC test track outside of Burlington IL. It was still visible 20 years ago, but seems missing now from Google sat pics. I think it was only shrubs.
That site is now MGA testing.

@milky Some comedian put this on the roof of a building on the approach to Sydney Airport:

I was going to post the LUECKE property!

For reference, the letters are 3,000 feet tall and the lines for the lettering are 400 feet thick. The total length of their name is about 2.5 miles.

                            Something, something bigger in Texas....

Never discount the possibility that you might live through it.
