What is your favorite original Christmas song?
-
As mentioned before, I’m Oppo’s resident Golden Girls fan. I’m also the resident Dolly Parton fan as she is immensely talented and just an all around great person. I have seen her in concert twice and each time was amazing. I also own a few shirts and such from her Amazon store.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand. What’s your favorite original Christmas song? Any genre.
Mine is of course “Hard Candy Christmas” by Dolly Parton - even though it wasn’t originally meant to be a Christmas song. I also love “Christmas In Dixie” by Alabama. “A Christmas to Remember” by Kenny Rogers and Dolly is great, too. Comment and post a link to yours!

Easy, The Vandals - Oi To The World!

Leaving on a Jet Plane by John Denver.
Nothing in the song has anything to do with Christmas. But my parents would put on the record while we decorated the tree. And I was obsessed with airplanes as a kid so I always made sure that song got played at least once.

@mazda616 When I was a kid, we thought this was hilarious.

I don't really have a favorite song from it, but the Beach Boys Christmas album is far and away my favorite this time of year.

My favorite Christmas-song-that-isn’t is Hallelujah. How that ended up as a Christmas staple is proof that no one listens to lyrics (or that God has a sense of humor).
My favorite traditional Christmas tune is Greensleeves, in part because I performed an atrocious trumpet solo to it in 6th grade.

@mazda616 I'm a big fan of all of the ones from "Home Alone". Also, and as bad as it is, The "Alvin and the Chipmunks" Christmas album really takes me back to my childhood. Aw man all the muppets ones too....
Ok I will take Brenda Lee's variant of "Rockin around the Christmas Tree" for $200.

Always liked this, for some reason

@rctothefuture Literally just heard that on the radio ten minutes ago. Good one.

@mazda616 Originals? I’d go with the Pogues Fairytale of New York.
But....I ve always loved The Power of Love. It is kinda non sequitur, coming(ha!) from a band whose other single from this album was Relax! To me it’s one of those times where a group of songwriters channel something out of the universe and create something special that you’ll never be able to top in your artistic output ever again. It’s one of those outliers in music where you scratch your head and wonder....if they made this song, why couldn’t they repeat the success?

You should just Relax

It's not original but it is definitely the definitive version

A few maybe not mentioned yet - This one is hated by many, but it reminds me of being a kid, so I like it:
Also stuff like this is good, Christmas music for driving in the fintail:
My dad was into Christmas music, I probably heard the Perry Como and Roger Whittaker Christmas collections a million times when I was a kid, those are special too.

Back when artists were actually artists and had talent. This is a great song by real singers. And with Phil Collins on drums too.....just awesome.

Bob Geldolf, though he was one of the main organizers and contributors to this and "We are the World" USA for Africa, always stayed out of the spotlight. Rare shot of him performing
-
@poor_sh Completely agree, and came here to post this. Though Winter Wilderness is tied with Flurries for me.
-
@mazda616 No love for the Barenaked Ladies in this thread?
-
@mazda616 like a lot of songs of the era, the origins are a bit muddy, but Chuck Berry made this song famous.
