OPPO Automation Visual Voting! (Poll Inside)
-
Hello Oppos!
For those of you who weren't aware, I threw together an Oppo Automation Challenge, tasking you to come up with your design for the best Sport Wagon. Following some loose, but important guidelines, four bold Oppos (five is you include me) took to the game and whipped up their own designs.
Now your task is to vote for the car you think looks the best, which directly determines the starting position of the BeamMP race
Speaking of the race, Monday at 6 pm EST (I know the time has changed) I'll be inviting those of you who've participated into a BeamMP server (it's called Oppositelock Automation, but I'm pretty sure just typing Oppo will make it pop up).
Now, lets meet our wagons.
This is @Taylor Martin's submission: The Premi Edgeback. Fitted with a 3.3L V6 and paired with a 6 speed advanced automatic, the Edgeback managed to cram 240 horses under its hood. Though gas mileage takes a big hit thanks to the big engine and even greater weight.
).
Up next is a somewhat simple wagon, though absolutely a wagon. The Oppocar Onus submitted by @MM54. It's got a 2.6L inline 5 cylinder, a popular choice in this competition, but can still churn out 192 horsepower, getting the power down through a 5-speed manual. And painted deep purple (
Here's a very original car, the Model 10 Trim 10 submitted by @Jawzx2. Don't be fooled by the boring name and typical 2.2L 5 cylinder engine, because this thing is turbocharged, and absolutely wallops the competitions with 282hp. Paired with a 6-speed manual, there's a good chance this thing will be a screamer on the track.Coming up, the Famile Slapshot created by @CB, who had the trickiest time figuring out how to follow the rules. Fitted with a massive 3.3L inline 5, and turbocharged to death, the Slapshot manages 323 horsepower. Just when you think these wagons can't get faster! And it's paired with a 6-speed manual, so you know it's a proper sports car. Though despite the powerful engine, the Slapshot managed to have the best gas mileage... by a significant margin... Though all this goodness may be because the car is $20k over budget... but still.
And last, but certianly not least, the Yonda Civil XR, from the mind of @CivicWagonEngineer. It's heavily inspired by a real life car, though I'm not sure which one... Regardless, it has yet another inline 5 with 2.5L of displacement, naturally aspirated, pumping out an awesome 246 horsepower. It falls right in the middle when it comes to power, below the mad lads and above the tame tuners. All that Civic-- I mean... Civil goodness paired to a 6 speed manual. So vote right here! Voting will be counted tomorrow at 5:45pm EST
Looking forward to the race tomorrow. Ill open up the server early in the AM, though I won't be around to see if it works so those of you with a car will have to test it.
The winners of this Automation Challenge on paper may not be announced until after Christmas depending on how soon I can 1.) rework the judging since the rules got misinterpreted and 2.) edit and upload the race video. I drive home on the 23rd, but hopefully I'll be able to get this all done. Regardless, the On Paper results are very interesting...
ONE LAST THING FOR EVERYONE: I think there are a few poeple who won't be able to race their cars. If anyone here has BeamNG and would like to 1.) download BeamMP and 2.) collaborate with either @CB @MM54 or @Jawzx2 to pair up. Or all you guys can ask around. If you find a driver let me know!
Stay tuned, and thanks to everyone who submitted a vehicle!
-
@taylor-martin The reason why the Slapshot is so powerful is because it overshot the budget limit by 50%. Man eyes, man.
-
@cb Oh yeah, forgot to mention that in the description of it lol.
-
My wagon was going to try to look like a civic wagon originally, but the body I chose the first go around was actually a hatchback body style. Since I had to redo it I just went a totally different route but kept the name. Funny about the I5 being so popular here, that Volvo in the doc must've inspired a lot
-
@taylor-martin I've still only seen maintenance costs and cost to build.
-
@cb Wait, could you not figure out where to find the total approx price? I can show you if you'd like.
-
@taylor-martin Yes please! Otherwise "CB builds something dumb expensive" is going to be a running theme in this series.
-
@cb Lol. Dumb and expensive will definitely be a challenge at some point, so there's always hope!
All those numbers on the bottom are different stats. Look to the far right of those numbers and at the very bottom, you'll see the number 28,000. This obviously isn't your car, but that's where you'd find it under the markets button in the testing tab. Sorry that wasn't clearly explained earlier haha.
-
Hm, on my end it's showing $46900. Weird. Oh well!
And thank goodness dumb and expensive is on the way, because I accidentally built a 600hp 3.1 litre V10 and it needs places to go.
-
@cb you have 4 out the 5 markets selected (the flags in the bottom left) and I'm pretty sure that changes the price. Try setting it to only Frunia and see what the price is
-
@civicwagonengineer Still the same price.
-
@taylor-martin why did you make your car boring gray? you want to loose on purpose?
What is an advanced automatic?
-
The Oppocar Onus is definitely the best looking. These are all so great, I don't know which one to choose as my favorite! Thanks for organizing this. I look forward to following along.
-
@jb-boin Its an automatic that makes the car more desirable to markets. I went for the "this is a car people will buy" car and not a "this is the sportiest wagon on the market no auto included."
My in-game scores were real good, but clearly, my styling wasn't haha.
-
I demand another car that uses CVT gearbox.
-
@taylor-martin i mean, what does "advanced" automatic means?
-
@taylor-martin Your car was actually my close 2nd pick for the poll. I think it has a good unique character to it without trying too hard.
-
@jb-boin Probably shifts faster in beam or something i'm not entirely sure...
-
@Taylor-Martin @CB screw the budget, I'll take the pooooooowwwwwweeeeeeerrrrrr
-
Oh man, I must've missed this! I have Automation and BeamNG! I should've submitted my pretty cool wagon.....haven't played the game in months so I'd have to re-do it, but it's got some pretty unique styling...
-
@rallydarkstrike Well with how many people joined and say they'll take part there's bound to be a next time! Will be looking forward to your entry!
-
@CB @CivicWagonEngineer @Jawzx2 @MM54 I'm pinging you via reply because this is a message about the server/race. The good news is it works. The bad news is I'm out all day so I won't open it up until 4:30 or 5.
If you can't race but want to see your car driven, you'd better find a driver (@RallyDarkstrike has the game, and I'm sure there are others. If you ask nicely, they might download BeamMP and represent you and your creation).
When I get home I'll pop on the Oppositelock Sim Racing Discord and will probably use Race Chat 2 in case there's an actual even to today. The sooner you pop in (once I'm there, of course), the sooner you'll learn how to join and the more practice laps you can get in.
I'll tell you how to join the server from there, it's not just typing in the name, you have to direct connect to it for some reason.
ONE LAST VERY IMPORTANT THING: When I get home, I'll be posting a bunch of .zip files here, they're of all your cars. You need to download them and plop them into your BeamMP Resources folder (Should be under Appdata/Roaming/BeamMP unless you put it somewhere else... I think). That'll make downloading 5 mods a lot faster since you'll have already downloaded them manually rather than through Beam.
Alright. See you all real soon!
-
Dont know how i missed it. I need to get automation again. I played it ages ago before it was full release. Looks way more advanced now.
-
@Taylor-Martin I'll probably hop on around 5:30pm EST. Glad you got the server figured out, I was messing around with BeamMP over the weekend and tried to find the server but it wasn't showing up. About the .zip files, is that something you can even share
here on Oppo? I tried PMing you my .car file yesterday but I couldn't find anything for just sending files. Might have to use discord for that. Looking forward to racing everyone later! -
I may be available at race time, but my internet is crap and I'm not sure how well I will be able to actually race.
