Obelisk Spotted: Beam.ng

Was cruising the new jungle island map and stumbled upon a big ol' metal obelisk.
What's oppo playing/drinking?
-
bulleit rye
-
@carsoffortlangley More cranberry ginger ale. 'Tis the season. No video games tonight, will likely do Automation and Beam.Ng for my sweet new five-cylinder wagon design tomorrow.
-
@cb Nice! I love how the two games work together.

A low production local whisky that i got hand delivered this morning by one of the producer, 500ml bottle 36/523, bottled 15 days ago.
And before that, their gin which got delivered along with it.And i played Cyberpunk earlier.
-
@jb-boin how is cyberpunk? I thought about getting it in hopes it would be fallout/GTA rpg esque. But it sounds awful
-
Wha?! I drove on that map yesterday. I'll have to explore some more.

It's actually great, it's still quite bugged but i had nothing game-breaking so far after more than 25h.
GTA is definitely not a RPG and i started to play to RDR2 like 1 month ago so i can easily compare, Cyberpunk is miles more immersive and entertaining with a captivating story, it's closer to Fallout RPG aspect (you have levels on 5 or 6 branches and perks on each and you can craft/enhance/disassemble weapons and equipment ; you also have "body mods") and the secondary missions don't feel like they are cheap side quests.
It's not a good as Fallout for the RPG aspects and story choices as it often feel like you won't have a very different outcome no mater what you choose in the dialogs or the order you do the missing.
But the world is also more complex (and beautiful), the storytelling and the shooting are better and you don't feel like every 5 person you meet is the same or with the same voice/lines.It's in a way not as good as GTA for the driving part as it might feel slow and the controls a bit clunky but i actually like that it's easy to simply drive without jumping everywhere or having accidents all the time and you can watch what if going on around so it's more of a transport mean like the horse in The Witcher than a driving simulation (GTA was not a very great one either so it's not a big problem).
TL;DR : If you can wait, the game will probably improve in the next months but at this point it's still a great experience on PC (i would definitely wait to play on consoles).
If you want another great similar game (FPS immersive sim in an open world that don't feel "empty" like GTA/RDR) that had it's bug fixed since it has been released (but unfortunately did get bad initial reviews because of them) : Kingdom Comes : Deliverance, it definitely didn't have the success it deserved.
ps: don't know how i could have forgot to mention Deus Ex : It's really similar in many way to the last two Deus Ex but in a real open world as you can for most mission go silent if you want with multiple possible paths, you also do have "biomods" and hacking capabilities and depending on your strength or technical skills level you can open certain doors/paths.

Drinking:
Cline Old Vines Zinfandel 2017
Perfectly drinkable sub-$10 bottle, no complaintsPlaying:
Stellaris
Picked it up a bundle sometime recently, after having the (obvious) revelation that when they say it's an RTS they mean like Crusader Kings (which I would want to play), not a frantic click fest like Starcraft or something (which I'm not a fan of). Mixed feelings so far. Not enough challenge, but I guess that's my fault for playing the game on normal difficulty, but once I got to the point where my empire was big enough that I wanted to rely on AI governors to manage some of my planets, things started to fall apart. They are hilariously bad and build incredibly broken colonies. I expected them not to be great, but you could seriously write a very dumb script in less than an hour that would be smarter than this AI, and I'm shocked that four years after the game came out, it's still so bad. In any event, it took a lot of micromanagement to clean up, and a lot of further micromanagement to keep going. It does explain why the AI is so weak, if all their colonies are managed like this. All expansion is gated by an "influence" resource that can't be produced, except by a few special cases, which keeps me from steamrolling everyone but the Fallen Empires. I'm not sure if this is good or bad to be honest. -

The PC is alright. Seen some weird stuff in the PS5 play through I've watched (it's also crashed more than a few times on there).
Apparently it's basically junk on the outgoing consoles though until they do some big patches.
In terms of gameplay it looks to me almost kind of Far Cry like but in and around an unlocked city.

@carsoffortlangley CS:GO... the grind continues
-
@carsoffortlangley I was driving around Southern California in American Truck Simulator earlier today.
Tonight was the weekly Zombie bike ride. Was cold, but fun. With my fixie in the shop getting grip tape done right, it turned out to be the first time in about three weeks I've ridden a bike with gears or brakes. It turns out fixed gear has already made my legs stronger. I kept just wanting to mash on flats and climbs.
There was much beer drank on the ride and the brewery stop.
-
@exage03040 i added a post scriptum to my previous post : it's actually quite close to the last two Deus Ex but in a real open world.
I wouldn't think of Far Cry as a similar game but maybe the storytelling aspect could be compared.
-
@carsoffortlangley willamette valley cab sav and SNL PVR’d. Probably do some The Outer Worlds later
-
@jb-boin what hardware are you running cyberpunk on? I'm considering holding off as they improve the bugs but also because I'm thinking my system needs an overhaul before getting into a new AAA title.
-
@pyroholtz i have a Ryzen 7 1700x (which is far from being fully used) and a GTX1080, i play in 3440x1440 on a 144hz screen so i am mostly in medium settings with dynamic resolution going as low as 75% (it's obviously running better on interiors but i don't think it's going often under 40fps), it's still not looking bad at all but i wouldn't be against upgrading the graphic card (DLSS would definitely help).
I don't think the graphic optimization on PC is too bad, it can certainly improve but it's not the worst either.
-
not tried the new map on beam yet, need to check it out at some point
-
@samv8 There's a new map?! Oh boy!
-
@Taylor-Martin perhaps we can use the new map as part of the challenge? build an offroader in automation and do a challenge somewhere on the map
-
@samv8 I already know this challenge is going to be on Hirrochi, but in a future challenge that'd be good. Ping me later today if you have a sec, I may need someone to test the server and see if you can get online (though I have to open it up first, and unless you can do that right now at the prime hour of 6am I don't want to leave it running until you're ready).
-
are you on the discord to ping or do it on here? @Taylor-Martin
-
@samv8 Just ping me here. If you're up for it I can do some early morning troubleshooting, though if you need to sleep for a bit beforehand that's cool too.
-
I'm in the UK so it's 11:20am for me, just having issues downloading the mp client because of my AV
-
That's good info and helpful. I'm also running the gtx1080 but at 2560x1440p60hz but my CPU is quite dated comparably to your 8 core (16t) beast, it's only a 3770k @ 4.6. I may give the game a whirl and see how it plays
