XDelete

Since I bought my car I’ve been wanting away to switch from AWD, to RWD easily, and temporarily.
Well it turns out that exists, and has for awhile. There is an app called XDelete for Xdrive BMW models that can tune, or switch off the Xdrive system. It does require a particular WiFi OBD2 adapter, I purchased mine through Bimmergeeks, it was 60 bucks.
He real expense tho is the license for the app. To actually use the app you have to pay $147 dollar fee. That’s a bit steep to say the least, but I’m going to have the car a long time so I justified it and there’s no going back lol.
The reflash takes just a few minutes, and then your set. There are 10-90, and 20/80 split modes, and a full RWD MODE. And a custom mode that I haven’t played around with. But I’m guessing you can do things like have traction control stay off.
I did the RWD mode and took the car for a spin and it worked. I’m pretty stocked to finally have the “best of both worlds” AWD/RWD car that I’ve wanted for so long. Now I need to look into getting a rear LSD... -
This sounds like an amazing use of $200

Waiting patiently for snow drift videos....

@hfv If I was planning to keep my 335xi longer I would've gotten xDelete. LSD ain't gonna be cheap though. MFactory or Wavetrac are both helical gearset style diffs. MFactory being a few hundred bucks less.

Luckily if you look at the Wavetrac application guide I believe your car has a bolted rather than welded ring gear in the rear end where you shouldn't need the extra $700 installation kit for the welded style.

@texturedsoyprotein I don’t that’s a mod I’ll actually be doing. That’s a lot of dough just to do better skids
-
@hfv counterpoint: better skids
-
@hfv that’s a bargain. Anyone know if you can get something like this for a Mercedes? Asking for a snownuts-loving friend.
-
@williamssw I have no idea, i don’t know how the Mercedes AWD system works. XDRIVE makes it pretty simple to just stop the computer from engaging the clutch pack that sends power to the front, or make it slip more.
-
@hfv I figured, just too lazy to research myself at the moment.
I love this though - if I can find something like this for my car I'm totally doing it. -
@hfv This sounds totally awesome
-
Is this an E90 mod? I'm assuming the E46 generation didn't have that sophisticated of an AWD system on the xi's.
-
That's pretty neat, it's really cool that you can control something like that through your phone app.
-
@stuckmtb it’s I’m not sure if it works for e46 or not. You can check on the XDelete website.
-
Man, I’m freaking jealous. For some crazy reason, even though the E84 X1 shares unknown amounts of parts with the E90, xdelete isn’t available...
-
@neil-in-nomi that is odd. I wonder if the x1’s system is full time. Like it never fully disengages.
-
@hfv Yeah man, that sounds like it was easily worth the price of admission. I also had no idea this existed. $200 is nothing for that kind of functionality.
Out of curiosity, I wonder if the custom mode lets you do truly stupid things, like divert 100% of the power to only the front passenger side wheel.
-
@smugaardvark I don’t think there’s any way to do something like that. Power only goes through the wet clutch system to get to front so there’s no way to make it FWD. Xdrive Does use brake vectoring to control wheel spin, but it can’t actually direct more or less torque to the right it left.
-
@hfv Makes sense. I tend to live for silly ideas, so I thought I'd toss it out there.
