DOTSV: Acura SLX in Aberdeen, Washington
-
If I'm remembering correctly, there's a Toyota Prius C Persona Series (1 of 1,500) nearby...
-
@sam-blockhan that's an interestingly badged trooper
-
@tysmagic It's not a rebadge; it came that way from the factory. It sold poorly because it was based on an aging product that lacked the refinement expected from Acura.
-
I think this would technically be DOTSV, not CCIARAT.
-
@davesaddiction Yeahhhh I've been debating which one to use.
-
@davesaddiction what’s the second one even stand for?

Down On The Street View
-
-
This does bring up a question. Will Acura dealers service the Trooper? I mean, where else is someone supposed to bring an Isuzu?
-
@wasgtithengtothennovathengtinowa4 When Isuzu announced that they would stop selling cars, they said that they would still service them at their truck dealers. On a related note, you can get a Sterling 825/827 serviced at an Acura dealer because of the similarities to a Legend.
-
@sam-blockhan I saw one actually recently but I couldn't get a photo. Gloriously mundane.
-
@whoistheleader Cool! I learned it existed when I was nine or ten, when someone rolled into my neighborhood in one. I have not seen one since.
-
@sam-blockhan How does this work? I have used street view a few times including once when I was told there was an MGA, or maybe a TR3, in a lot by the highway on the way into a small town near me. So I was scrolling down the virtual highway looking for it (never found).
So do you just kind of pick a spot at random and see if there is anything of interest? Or pick a spot not at random (like I heard there were a lot of cool cars in LA, so I am going to go look? Or I use this for other reasons related to work or pleasure and sometimes a cool car pops up so I save it and repost? Or?
Lastly, he asks of no one and everyone, is there some way of manipulating maps and Google lens or something to locate any Plymouth Superbirds abandoned in the wild (if there is respond offline, such information could be dangerous in the wrong hands).
-
@sam-blockhan I really wanted to check it out but (1) it was full of people who seemed to be having a party and probably wouldn't appreciate my photos and (2) it was gone before I realized what I had seen.
-
@glemon I pick a spot that I think will bring me good spots. I'm not sure how to answer your Superbird question, though.
-
@sam-blockhan fine, fine; that's an interestingly badge engineered Trooper. This would be from the same era that gave us the Honda Discovery...I mean Crossroad, right?
-
@tysmagic Right. Also the era that brought us the Honda Passport/Isuzu Rodeo, Honda Odyssey/Isuzu Oasis, Honda Tourmaster/Isuzu Pickup, Honda Accord/Isuzu Aska, and probably more that I'm forgetting.
-
Worked on a couple of them in my donation car lot days. If I didn't have a severe distrust of engines that have blown a head gasket, I'd have bought the nicer of the two. They were a failure for being agricultural in quality, 1980s technology, tippy, rust prone (even by older Japanese standards), prone to head gasket & transmission issues, and closer to a Chevy S10 or Isuzu Rodeo mechanically than anything from Honda/Acura.
I don't know how many died in Cash For Clunkers but I'd say a fair share of SLXs were lost to that alone.

I mean, they probably wouldn’t want to service/waste their time with a Isuzu badged Isuzu but they have a certain obligation to service a SLX. They just get the parts from Isuzu like we do. We still occasionally get first gen Passports which were just rebadged Isuzu Rodeos. On that same theme I’ve done a timing belt on a Saturn Vue at my dealer after Saturn was killed because they used a Honda J35 V6 in some of them.
I thought it was an interesting arraignment with the Takata NADI airbags in the Isuzu Oasis. Customers that own an Isuzu Oasis affected by the recall are to take them to a Honda dealer because they are a rebadged Odyssey.
-
@sam-blockhan what a wild time for cross-brand badging. And we're caught up on a Toyota badged BMW in today's world.
-
Have you seen a Supra with a (oblong) roundel on it yet?
-
@sam-blockhan I'm trying to imagine someone who still:
- owns a Sterling- - that runs
- takes it to the dealer for maintenance and repairs
It's a big world, so there probably is someone out there, I guess
-
My cousin spotted this one. I'm very jealous.
-
@sam-blockhan Ooh, a later hatchback in greeeeeeeen, too!
I always liked these cars, but couldn't imagine dealing with the electrical issues.

Yes, there is. We could tell you how but then we’d have to kill you. Happy New Year from the nice folks at the NSA.
