Today's annoyance: I now need to change my house number on everything
-
Walked into the office this afternoon and my boss greeted me with a "good news, we need to change your house number". I was understandably annoyed and questioned why. Turns out, nineteen years ago, they put the wrong house number on my house, which then went on all the utilities and everything. Which was then promptly ignored as a problem until this week, where my employer, the town, and the folks who own the house have decided that it's been a long time coming. So now I need to change it on everything. At least my box number stays the same.I'm not shocked, I can't be mad, and I'm not even surprised as I continue to rack up problems that no one else in the universe has. Next problem to solve: trying to solve that Skip-Bo curse that a Wiccan chick put on me.

@cb Better than the shocking number of houses that have no house number. Oh wait, it's actually worse than no number.
-
@cb it’s not bad of you don’t have mail delivery. What else would it affect?
-
@classicdatsundebate Just my driver's license, banking information, etc. Doesn't affect directions since "house at the end of the street in the swamp" is pretty straightforward.
-
@cb lol, yeah

Reminds me of this...

@Exage03040 OMG yeah i totally forgot about that scene. "Do you really think the cops are stupid enough to fall for this Rick?" "Yes."
I love it.
-
@cb Wow.....0_o
Wouldn't something as important as a civic number like....be changed to the right one right away.....more importantly, how do IMPORTANT SERVICES know that you have the wrong house number and just 'roll with it' all this time???
-
@rallydarkstrike There are five houses on my block. And the important services I guess didn't care because there was no other house that had the number so there was no problem for them, it's just my house number doesn't match the number for my lot.
-
@cb ...you must be one of my friends. Only my friends get into these kind of issues
-
@cb ....couldn't they just give your lot the number your house is to make things vastly less confusing...?
-
@rallydarkstrike That was in the report. They would have needed to rezone and put out a new bylaw. It also apparently would mess with the numbers, but once again, five people on the block.
-
@cb ........rules are stupid sometimes, lol.
'Well, we could change this one number on this one thing.....or we could make somebody go through a CRAP ton of hassle and change numbers on any company, organization, credit card, etc that has his address, make him change the physical address on his house, etc......hmmmm.....the second one!"
-
I remember the sad story of a small business that had been around for 30 years, and the phone company accidentally gave their phone number to a new hospital. Because the hospital had printed up tons of marketing material with the number, the phone company decided the original owner was out of luck.
30 years of business under a number lost to 0 years but lots of money invested.
-
@just-jeepin That's depressing.
-
How the hell is this a thing that happened? There are only like 3 houses where you live.
-
@cb Back in my home town, I discovered when delivering pizza that there was a house with an odd numbered address, on the even side if the street. This being before cell phones were common and GPS wasn't much of a thing, took me for freaking ever to find that house.
-
At least they knew there was a problem. Could be worse, you could have the same number address as a house on an adjacent street that is only differentiated by 2-3 letters (Ave vs Pl), which causes our mail to be misdelivered seemingly every few days. I wish the city would shift the addresses on one or the other of our streets to reduce mail delivery problems.

@cb
Lol. And I thought my postcode was bad.
Each street, road, etc... in England is issued a postcode, then the houses are numbered on it, odd numbers one side, even numbers the others.
But for some reason my street has two, odd number houses have the postcode ending 5XX and even number (other side) houses end in 5XY.
So if I'm not in for a parcel, I can't leave it can't be left with my neighbour on the other side of the road, as I'd have to get in touch with the sender for them to change it from their end, where as if it was the same postcode I could simply say to Royal Mail, DPD, Yodel, etc... 'leave it at number 48 if no answer at 41'.
In Scotland there are streets, roads and avenues with the same name followed by St, Rd, Av, etc... but they put them all together, so the postcodes are very similar and difficult if part of the address can't be made out. In England we may have the same name (with the street, road, etc.... Being different) but they are almost always in different wards of the city. -
