Kinjaoppo may be dead, and I haven't been able to comment in almost 2 years, but...
-
...I'm still getting the occasional zombie star for ancient comments. Noticed this one and one other in the same string when I inadvertently clicked on my Kinja profile and saw notifications:
-
I tried to comment on an article today and couldn't even login.
-
There was someone on Oppo (apologies, forget who it is) that was retro actively catching up on Jalopnik articles, so I remember them starring things I'd commented in 2019.
Also Jalopnik also links previous related articles so I'll come back to random starring, happened to my comment on the M/V Golden Ray a few times.
-
I don't mind the occasional zombie star, but I feel kinda bad for those who go to all the trouble of typing out a reply that will probably never be read by anyone but me.
-
@chariotoflove Jalopnik has a space utilization problem:
These ads. I can’t.
This is absolutely unacceptable at this point. Sometimes a full screen popup ad shows up while I’m scrolling, and suddenly I’ve accidentally clicked on extra insurance for my cell phone coverage.
Oppo oughta raise some funds and buy Jalopnik from G/O so we can fix it. I’ll throw in $5 and an set of fake Recaro seats that I bought without testing if they’d actually fit in my MR2.

Yeah, that's where all my zombie stars come from, the special features where they fill in the gaps with previous articles.

I haven't been able to log in for a long time. Also when I starred someone toward the end, it would remove a star instead of giving one.

@urambo-tauro
Yeah, I kinda do too. Once or twice, I did that not realizing how old the post was. -
@way2blu
That's what kills sites much more than the complaints about herbs and union busting. They ruin the reading experience. There ads are for nothing if they lose eyeballs to them.
-
@way2blu Ad Blockers work for me, I don't see any of that shit
-
I posted that thing about the Moose Knuckle jackets ads when the Hyphen was just up and starting. It was as true then as now. The super annoying ads (especially on mobile) are likely driving away readers. Plus the fact that so many of them have NOTHING to do with the readership. I saw 2 people yesterday wearing MK jackets and almost spit-taked my coffee in the truck. Given the age and demographic... I’m guessing they don’t know what most people mean by “moose knuckle”

I got one today from 2017

I haven't been able to log into Kinja on any of the primary sites in years. I'd somehow been quarantined to the sub-blogs, and now I have basically no reason to go to any Kinja sites. Plus Jalopnik now appears to have been redesigned by an advertising guy with a bad attitude who took a two week web-building course online.

@way2blu
They are dead to me -

You’re still relevant!
-
@sn4cktimes Ha!
What you say is true of me on other sites too. I like to go to Macworld.com, example. Or I used to. Now, they have all these pop ups and ads that keep trying to fill the page. They make me miss the link I try to click! I go to click on something, and it’s moved because an ad loads in its place. It’s like playing whack a mole with my mouse. I just leave.

I wonder sometimes.
Me too, pal. Me too.

@exage03040 @Stef-Schrader had quite a few open tabs and was giving stars well past D-Day.
