      (That's a long title)

I decided to put a front and rear dash cam in the Amazon cart. It's something that I want but I wouldn't typically get for myself, which is really the definition of the great gift.

So I explained to my wife that she was getting it for me and she was on board. I am not easy to shop for.

Although in this case I didn't do exhaustive research, but this Viofo A129 Duo seemed like a good value and hopefully will not be needed to document someone acting stupidly and then denying fault.

      Merry Festivus!

@limitedtimeonly Well played. Those are often the best gifts. That's how I got my 70-200 f/2.0 lens. I had been talking about it for a long time, and my wife finally bought it for me to make me shut up.

Over the summer, a few weeks before my bday, I impulse bought a watch that I hadn't really been eyeing but when I became aware of its existence I thought it was super cool, and there just so happened to be multiple coupon codes that I was able to stack to make it almost sorta kinda into impulse purchase price territory. Then I told my wife who was all, "you're impossible to buy presents for, let me at least wrap this up and give it to you as a present." I honestly didn't even have my bday on my mind when I bought the thing but I agreed.

Fast forward to the Christmas season, and on black friday or cyber monday, I forget which one, I snagged her a UV phone sanitizer for a hell of a deal. Then a couple weeks later she was reading something and said to me, "I bet these phone sanitizer gizmos are going to be real popular this year!" I played it cool but now when she opens it I'll have to tell her, actually, I bought this long before you said anything about it.

@limitedtimeonly I'm supposedly difficult to shop for also. So I just keep an Amazon wish list up to date with exactly that kind of stuff; things I'd like but I can't quite justify spending money on.

That way, any time a gift-giving holiday comes around, my family can just pick something off the list and send it to me. Since I have a bunch of random stuff on there, there's still an element of surprise when I open it, but I know it's something I'll like/want.

@texturedsoyprotein I bought a new winter hat for myself and mentioned to my wife that there was a pattern that she would like, and she asked why I didn't just buy it for her. I went back and bought it, and have it ready as a Christmas gift.

So last week she goes and buys herself two new winter hats.

@limitedtimeonly My wife and I don’t buy each other anything for any holidays. This year I asked her if she needed anything. She says no. Perfect. The next morning she asks for a Bunn coffee maker. Ouch. I like the $20 ones from the box store that last a year with our hard well water.
But my new to me truck needed better tires so I bought some. 2020 at4 take offs. Wheels and tires. Think she will hate me?

@454ssracetruck We don't often do much gift buying for each other either. We are fortunate enough to be able to buy for ourselves what we want and don't wait around for birthdays or Christmas. It makes it much easier in general, except when we make the mistake of trying.

The wife and I are buying ourselves a wood stove for the basement. And maybe some small thingies for stockings.

Somehow I got to buy my own present (Camero) and get to buy her a present (gas fireplace insert). Yay!

@sn4cktimes Do you have the chain saw and hydraulic splitter? I do and gladly buy propane to heat the house and shop.
All though nothing is as comforting as the radiant heat of a wood stove.

It's more for pleasure than anything. But I'm taking the father in-laws' Stihl chainsaw. I split all my logs with a maul and wedge. It's good exercise. I used to HAVE to do it as a kid/teen and now I like doing it. I'm like Calvin turning into his Dad, it built character I guess. Wood was cheap in a small mountain town and we had a four level split. So we had the stove in the furnace room with a blower override to take all the hot air and shove it throughout the house. Thing pretty much burned non-stop all winter to keep the gas bill lower.

My current house is never chilly in the winter with the furnace. But we want to eventually finish the basement so it's going in the corner of what will be "the den" or "room of some name we have yet to figure out". Our friends' fire place is in what they call the Diamond Room. So we might come up with something random.

I don't understand the need for a rear camera. If someone hits your car from behind, it's up to them to prove why they are not at fault.
