Things could always be worse; Plymouth Volare

@racinbob
I lowkey want an Aspen or Volare Super Coupe tho

OR way worse

I recall early ones rusted fiercely, too.
I wouldn't call some of those vehicles abject failures though - I suspect cars like the Chevette and even Mustang II turned a nice profit.

@essextee My parents bought one new when I was a kid. I think it was a '77 or '78? It had the 318, Magnum style wheels, the slats on the rear side windows, etc. It looked pretty good, for an Aspen. It was a terrible car. Always spewing oil around the engine compartment and killing alternators. The dealer couldn't fix it either. The Ram truck they bought last year was the first time they tried another Mopar.

That's better, not worse!

I had a Volare RoadRunner for my first car. My dad bought it when I was 15. The top end of motor was in the trunk . 318/auto, 2.45 SureGrip (lol), black paint, tan interior, T-tops, the OEM gold wheels. We rebuilt the motor, and bumped the compression, small cam, aluminum intake, 4bbl carb, had some minor body work done and painted it - didn’t add back the decals. Done just in time for my 16th.
Like this but not mine. Couldn’t find a black RR with T-tops so the last one is an Aspen R/T but same thing really.
-
@fintail Oh and certainly the people that bought them at the time liked them. Its just with time people realized how they were the not very good of a bad lot.
-
@racinbob At the time, I believe people were baffled by Chrysler's ability to turn the trusty old Valiant into that. They were almost BL-like in their ability to replace a decent car with an inferior one.

There is one of these for sale locally. My niece’s boyfriend has his for sale, it’s it incredible condition. He has it listed as “make an offer”, so probably way too much.

@racinbob Some of the better cars of the 70s were used cars from the 60s.
