A thing by no means now commonly seen

@cé-hé-sin which number is on the badge?
-
I don't see them that often either but they're around if you know where to look (wealthy hip areas mainly). Cool cars but very expensive to maintain.
-
There's an old guy, 70s at best, drives a mint condition light green metallic XJ Sovereign.
Like this. -
@classicdatsundebate
Don't know I'm afraid. -
Most X300/308 I see anymore either have clearcoat fail and neglect, are pristine driven by a senior citizen, or are in that last big parking lot.
-
-
@britsnswedes-was-minigti Now that's an XJ6. Series III nailed it.
-
@fintail I LOVE THIS CAR and I’m not even elderly, wealthy or even more than mildly hipster.
-
@classicdatsundebate @Cé-hé-sin @fintail I drove one of those once, had a six-banger in it, and I couldn't believe how slow it was.
-
@ClassicDatsunDebate It seriously felt like it had maybe 150 horsepower. Of course, the car probably weighs about 9,000 pounds.
-
@rusty-vandura 163 HP apparently
-
@rusty-vandura Also small inside. A family friend had an XJ40 when I was a teenager, and I recall the back seat seemed tiny for the size of the car.
-
@classicdatsundebate That's not a good ratio.
-
@rusty-vandura The Euro market ones weren’t bad. Series 3 XJ6 had 270hp, which was pretty good for early 80s.
-
@fintail That was my other impression. Forgot to mention it, actually.
-
@distraxi The one I drove did not make 273 horsepower! More like 163, I am told. I'd have gussed <= 150.
-
@distraxi @Rusty-Vandura the v12 was upper 200s but the 6 cyl was down to about 180 by Series III in the 80s. Actually 180hp from a 4.2L six was better than many V8s of the time.
Mine is by far the slowest car I own but I love crushing it every time I take off. Very smooth power delivery.
-
@britsnswedes-was-minigti @distraxi I can't imagine that the one I drove had 180 horsepower. Then again, maybe it weighted 7,000 pounds.
-
@rusty-vandura series III (1979-1987) were around 4500 pounds. 0-60 somewhere in the teens, but at least you look amazing doing it.
-
@britsnswedes-was-minigti If you adjust my reply for exaggeration, I was spot on. Those Jaguars have always struck me as less than they were cracked up to be.
