@shoop The main problem for me in this is if the horses are running at full tilt on pavement, that must be hell on their hooves.

Reckless driving is already bad. Recklessly riding a horse and endangering its life too is a step even worse.

(I’ve worked with horses this year and making sure to treat them properly is no joke. They’re super injury-prone and need a lot of love and care.)

@shoop I hate anyone that ever had a pony when they were growing up.

@shoop The use of the word "standardbreds" is making this seem analogous to when snooty rich people complain about people ruining the neighborhood by driving second-hand Honda Civics through it.

I live in a 70's subdevelopment and my backyard abuts the City of Loveland, CO so it's not like I'm in the country. I was pretty darn surprised to see someone walking their horse down the street in front of my house. They were obeying the speed limit of 20 mph so I can't complain.

I'm not a horse person but I had been led to believe that you're supposed to ride horses. 20200912_185011.jpg

@way2blu It's cause for all their bulk they're still skittish prey animals. Like a giant bunny that can accidentally kill you.

every now and then in my town we get travellers that go flying around on their cart like this, the speeds they can get up to is surprisingly quick 29e4ad20-26a3-42be-9412-5f9a60abd224-image.png

I was quite surprised the first time I saw horses walking down the street in my area: heavily urban, definitely on the poor side of town. Doesn’t happen often, but clearly there’s someone in my vicinity who loves horses.

@vincentmalamute Our neighbors walk their horses like they are dogs. It's kind of hilarious. Ride the darn things already!

And you may ask yourself, "Where does that highway go to?"

@highlander Maybe these people don't have dogs to walk, but the horses are handy when they want to take a walk?

I do feel weird if I take a walk without a dog.

@krustywantout when I was a little boy in Poland, we all had ponies. My sister had pony, my cousin had pony. He was a beautiful pony and I loved him!

Maybe they were leading their horse to water.

Now only if they could find a way to make it drink...

@shoop There is a horse farm on my street and during the spring , summer , and fall they will ride the horses down our street and through nearby trails. They ride them responsibly but what they don't do is pick up the horse crap on our street or trail. As someone who enjoys going for a hike and rides a motorcycle, this really upsets me. Just like a dog owner, they should be required to pick up their pets crap!
