Nice article about the Chartreuse liquor and the monks
-
For those who don't know already, i am from around there (i can see the Chartreuse mountain chain from some of my windows) and my mother's cat (Kiwi) is of the Chartreux breed.
As i know that you like the chartreuse color and some of you like to drink i thought i would leave this here.
A set of 3cl bottles i have laying around, the flash makes them look almost identical but each one has it's own hue.I am not very fond of Chartreuse but i love it in ice cream and in deserts such as crême brulée !

@jb-boin Interesting! My fiancee and I have greatly enjoyed this cocktail, which calls for chartreuse:
-
@jb-boin I used to live next door to a bar and one of the items on the menu was the Windsor Tap High/Low. That was a shot of Benedictine and a 16 oz can of Schlitz.
-
@jb-boin I really like Chartreuse. I used to drink it on the rocks as an aperitif. It's pretty expensive over here, though.

It's around 35€ for a 70cl bottle of the green one around here.

It runs $65 for a 700 or 750ml bottle around here. I really want to buy one so I can make the Last Word, but I don’t want to spend that much without knowing if I like it. What I need to do is order it in a bar first, but all the bars are closed :/.
I did find a place that sells it for $30-ish for a tiny bottle so it’s even pricier per ml, but it might be a good way to buy them at one liquor you need but won’t use much.

@musashi66 yes that's steep, i can totally understand your doubt
If you like herbal alcohols you will probably like it neat but if not it could still be appreciated in a similar fashion as a Cointreau or Grand Marnier in cocktails and deserts or simply to enjoy it's nice color !
-
@jb-boin Herbal stuff is tough. I like some Italian Amaros, but I am not huge on Jaeger or Fernet. So... not sure how I'd feel about the green stuff.
-
@jb-boin I don't believe I've ever tried it. I know its herbal based, and I do like Dubonnet, which is basically herbs and wine, so I suppose I'd like it.
-
@musashi66 it's miles better than Jaeger which is definitely not sippable and also 35% of alcohol vs 55% (for the "verte") so it's more like comparing a Malibu to a proper rum for example.
-
@jb-boin It’s a bit more here, but alcohol in general is dirt cheap in my state.
-
It's not totally related, but my favorite monks are those of the Trappist variety. Their beer is fantastic.
